Easiest Way Of Repairing The Peeling Of Paint On Plaster Walls

A wall with the peeling paint is a mess in a home, resulting in embarrassment and frustration. If in case the paint peels from an interior wall, then the reason for the peeling of paint is an improperly prepared surface and the moisture seeping through from the wall. The best and easy way to repair the peeling of paint on plaster walls is as follows:
  1. Protection: Once the user has located the peeled paint, the user needs to lay down old towels, or a sheet of plastic under the space. If in case the peeling is on the main part of a wall, that time apply the painter's tape on to the trim. Also, put on a safety mask, glasses, as well as gloves.
  2. Scrape Off Peeling Paint : Take a flat blade to scrape the wall having the peeling paint. The old peeling paint should come off and fall onto the towel, plastic sheet, or tarp. Use a stiff-blade putty knife, wire brush, or simply a paint scraper. Continue the scraping until there is no peeling paint on the wall.
  3. Fill Any Cracks Or Holes: For repairing an interior surface, take a putty knife and dip into quick-setting patching compound. And in case of the exterior surface, dip in the exterior spackling compound paste. Place a thin layer on the affected surface so that all the cracks or holes are filled. Leave it to dry completely.
  4. Sanding: For a small area, use a fine-grit sanding sponge for rubbing over the space that is filled with the compound. In the case of a larger area, use a disc sander having a 60 to 120-grit disc. Sand the affected area until the surface feels smooth to touch and also blends in with the rest of the surface.
  5. Wipe The Area: After the sanding is done then take a sponge or cloth and dip into water and wring out so it is just damp. Then wipe the area which is sanded to remove any dirt, dust, as well as the old paint. After this take a dry cloth and then wipe it again so there will be no moisture on the surface. It should be fully dry before moving to next step.
  6. Primer: Take a brush or roller and dip in the high-quality paint primer. Over the repaired area spread a thin and even layer of the primer, leave it to dry completely. If applying the primer to an exterior space, use a spray applicator to cover it up.
  7. Touch Up Small Areas: If repainting a small repaired area, then dip a bristle or sponge brush into the paint and apply it directly on the primed surface and it is a good idea to brush away towards the edges.
  8. Repaint Large Surfaces: For the large areas repaint the whole wall. Pour the paint into a paint tray and then take a paint roller and coat in it. Apply the paint on the wall in a light, even layer. Leave it to dry completely before applying another coat of paint.
