How To Repair Patio Chairs: Steps To Replace Patio Chair Straps

How To Repair/Replace Patio Chair Straps?

The patio chair straps can be replaced by following the below-given steps:
  1. Remove Old Straps:
The first step will be to remove the old straps & fasteners by using scissors & screwdrivers.
  2. Cleaning:
After that, the user needs to wash the whole chair with a sponge dampened in soapy water.
  3. Measurement:
The next step will be to measure the length of straps by taking measurement from hole to hole using a cloth measuring tape. The measurement must be taken in a way as if cloth measuring tape is a strap.
  4. Calculate The Total Length Of Strap Required:
After that take the measurement of the hole to hole and multiply it with .85 or 85% and add an extra inch to it which will be considered as the strap cut length. For Example; hole to hole measurement = 22", multiply it with .85 = 17.6", and one inch is added to it that will be equal to 18.6" which is considered as strap cut length.
  5. Cut Multiple Straps:
After that, cut multiple straps of the above-mentioned length required to strap the whole chair.
  6. Punch Or Drill Holes:
The next step will be to punch a hole on each side of the strap using a leather punch or drill a hole using an electric drill with a 3/16" bit. The user needs to make sure to drill a hole on both sides of the strap with an end gap of 1/2 inch and at the center of the strap.
  7. Trim Corners:
The next Step will be to trim off corners of each strap using sandpaper.
  8. Soften The Strap:
The process of replacing straps will begin by softening the straps using boiling water or using a hot gun.
  9. Insert Fasteners:
The next step will be to insert fasteners on each side of the strap while the straps are hot. It is recommended to use gloves and a pair of tongs to complete the step.
  10. Attach Fastener To The Frame:
While the strap is still hot, insert its fastener from underneath into the chair hole and bring the strap out from the outside of the chair frame. If facing difficulty while inserting the fastener into the chair hole, the user can tap it in with a hammer or a rubber mallet.
  11. Pull The Strap And Attach The Other Fastener:
After that, the user needs to pull the strap and wrap it to the other side of the chair from the top side on the opposite direction and its fastener into the hole as well.
  12. Repeat The Process:
The user needs to do the same with other straps in order to strap the whole chair. Once completed, the chair can be put to use again.
