How To Repair Chipped Marble Countertop Edge: Two Easy Methods

Two Easy Methods Of Repairing The Chipped Marble Countertop Edge

A marble countertop is chosen for its aesthetic value. The colors and the unique vein patterns of this natural stone can add elegance as well as the style to any room or the object. It is often used for bathroom countertops. Marble is regarded as the softer than the other natural stones such as granite and is very prone to chipping as well as cracking under heavy use. The two easy methods for repairing the chipped marble countertop edge are as follows:

Method 1: For Chipped Piece

  1. In this method the first step is to find the chipped piece of marble countertop edge and keep it in an accessible area.
  2. The second step is to mark off the section of marble that is damaged and needs to be repaired. Using a masking tape make a square all around the chipped area. The user need not to worry if the edges of tape extend beyond the square.
  3. Clean all the area with the help of a non-abrasive cleaner like pure acetone, and then dry it using a clean microfiber cloth. This will help to remove any of the dust or any other material and prepare the area base for the bonding.
  4. Apply the epoxy glue or the marble repair cement on to a small brush. After that brush down the bonding material on the bottom as well as on the edges of the chipped piece of marble and also on the chipped area of the countertop. Press down the chipped piece on the hole and then hold it down firmly for the amount of time which is recommended by the adhesive manufacturer because there are different methods by different manufacturers. Wipe away any of the excess adhesives before it dries completely.

Method 2: Repairing Chipped Marble For Missing Piece

  1. Under this method the first step is to purchase the marble dust that must be similar in color as the countertop that you are planning to repair.
  2. Mark off all the chipped edge section of the countertop with the help of a masking tape square. Clean the marble using a non-abrasive cleaner and then dry it thoroughly.
  3. With the help of a plastic putty knife mix a small amount of the polyester resin cement and the marble dust for creating a bonding agent. The mixture must have a paste-like consistency.
  4. Pour some of the mixed paste in a syringe, and then inject it in the chipped area edge. Leave it to dry for overnight.
  5. Finally sand the area with the help of a 400- to 600-grit fine sandpaper for making the smooth surface.
