General Overview

Acetone is usually found in nail polish and can damage the wood surface if fallen accidentally over it. The acetone if removed immediately can cause less damage but it stays on the surface for long it may result in the tough stain because it reacts when contacted with the wooden finish surfaces. The Acetone will immediately damage the finish of the wood as it reacts with the lacquer or varnish. However, if it is fallen on the unfinished wood surface it will not damage it but might result in the wood raising.

How To Fix Acetone Damage On Wood Table?

Acetone damaged wood furniture can be repaired by following the below-given steps:
  1. Stain Marker: Hiding stain using a matching stain marker is the easiest way to deal with the stains in case they are light. The stain markers are available in tons of colors choose the one which matches perfectly. Then use a clean cloth to wipe it off and check if the stain is gone. Repeat the process if the stain is still visible.
  2. Lacquer: Lacquer is another way to repair the affected area. If the stain is small than cover the area around it using masking tape if it is larger than leave the area masking. Treat the stain affected area with aerosol lacquer can spray and let it dry completely. Once dried go for sanding using steel wool and avoid being harsh. Repeat the spray again over the stained area to make it disappear. This process needs to be followed after the use of the stain marker.
  3. Burnish: The Burnish is the process that needs to be followed by sanding the lacquer finished area using a piece of denim rather than sandpaper. Rub the area with force till the lacquer matches the old finish. Burnishing needs to be done in the entire area like if the stain is on the chair arm then burnishing the entire arm is recommended.
