Repairing your door frame is not an easy task to perform; it requires hard work, patience, and experience depending on how your door frame is damaged & how you intend on fixing it. If you are facing the same problem then you need to follow the given steps to get rid out of this problem without wasting your precious time. Here are the Items & steps:

Items Needed

  • Wire Brush & Fine-Grit Sandpaper
  • Putty knife & Stain Marker Or Paint And Paintbrush
  • Vacuum With Brush Attachment & Wood Stain, Optional
  • Wood Filler, Spackle, Epoxy, or Other Filling Compound

Steps

  1. Scrape: First you need to scrape any flaking paint and splinters out of the damaged area of your door frame by using a wire brush. Now, grab a putty knife blade and use the corner of it to rake out scraps or stubborn lumps. Once finished now you need to use a vacuum cleaner with brush attachments in order to vacuum your door frame to remove any dust.
  2. Mix Or Soften: You need to use a wood filler that is suitable for the type of your wood. Now, soften or mix your selected wood filler according to the instruction of the product.
  3. Apply: Once done, now apply the prepared wood filler to a putty knife. Scrape it into the damaged area of the door frame. If you're dealing with a deep hole then you have forced the wood filler further into the cavity with the flat of your putty knife blade, then scrape your wood filler smooth with the help of a putty knife blade's edge. Make a second stroke rectangular to your first stroke, smoothing the surface & removing any excess wood filler.
  4. Dry: Allow your wood filler to fully dry, it may take up to few hours. If your wood filler shrinks as it dries or the first process was not able to fill the imperfection of your door frame then you need to apply a second coat in the same way as you do before. Overfill the depression slightly, so even if your wood filler shrinks, it still fills the depression of your wood door frame. Now, wait for this coat to dry.
  5. Sand: Once dried, now, sand the surface lightly with the help of fine-grit sandpaper until the surface of your door frame is level & smooth. Fill any other imperfections which are left behind in the same way as you do before. Touch up the repaired spots with a wood-stain marker or matching paint.
