Steps To Repaint/Refinish Old White Kitchen Cabinets

The users need to follow certain steps in order to refinish the old white kitchen cabinets and the steps are mentioned below:
  1. Remove: Begin the process by removing all the kitchen cabinet doors and drawers. Besides that remove all the pulls, knobs, latches and other hardware. Secure the hardware in a safe place so that it can be used again after painting. It is very important to mark the doors and drawers to their corresponding location.
  2. Clean: The next step is to clean the cabinets with the trisodium phosphate (TSP) and water so that all the dust and grime is removed and after that wipe the area with clean damp cloth.
  3. Repairs: Look for any repairs like dents, holes, and gouges. If the repair is needed then fill them with the wood filler using the putty knife, spread the solution over the affected area.
  4. Sanding: Once the filler is completely dried then go for the sanding so that the surface becomes smooth. In order to prevent the rounding around the edges use a wood sanding block. Once the sanding is done then vacuum to remove the sanding dust.
  5. Primer: Now apply the primer with the help of the good quality paintbrush, the primers help the paint to adhere to the surface better, the other benefit of the primer is that it reduces the need of sanding before painting.
  6. Paint: Once the primer is completely dried out then apply the Semi-Gloss Latex Paint, apply the paint in thin and light coats. The benefits of the thinner coats are that it reduces the brushstrokes and dries more quickly.
  7. Dry: Allow the paint to dry completely, once dried then sand the surface before going for the second coat. But before going for the second coat it is important to remove the sanding dust.
