Procedure To Get Rid Of Sticky Varnish From Wood

The sticky varnish can be the result of prolonged use of wood furniture. Using furniture for long without proper maintenance can also result in the discoloration.
The Sticky Varnish Or A Sticky Build-up Present On The Wood Can Be Removed By Following The Below-given Procedure
  1. Thorough Cleaning:
First, the user needs to clean the wood with white vinegar or a slightly acidic cleaner. The step will help the user to remove worn-out varnish from the wood by which a sticky residue will get removed as well.
  2. Prepare Solution:
The solution for cleaning the wood should be prepared by mixing white vinegar and water in equal parts.
  3. Wipe Down The Wood:
Once the solution is prepared, the user needs to wipe down the entire sticky wood surface with it. During wipe down, the user needs to scrub the surface lightly rather than applying too much pressure which can leave scrub marks on the wood.
  4. Rinse The Wood & Let It Dry:
After that, the user needs to rinse the wood by wiping down its surface with a clean cloth dampened in clean water. Once completed, the user needs to let the wood dry completely.
  5. Alternate To Vinegar:
In case, the user doesn't have vinegar and requires a little strong solution. The user needs to follow the above-mentioned steps but at the time of preparing a solution, he needs to add mild dishwashing detergent with water in place of white vinegar.
  6. Cleaning Serious Sticky Residue:
In order to clean serious sticky residue, it has been recommended by the experts to use Murphy oil soap. The Murphy oil soap should be diluted with water in order to clean mild or minor cases and for thicker sticky residue it should be applied directly on the wood.
  7. Wipe & Rinse The Sticky Residue:
The user needs to wipe down the wood with a cloth containing Murphy oil soap and follow that up by rinsing the wood with a clean cloth dampened in clean water.
  8. Apply A Wood Wax:
The last step will be to let the wood dry before applying a wood wax on to it for protection from stains & water.
