Step By Step Process Of Removing Rust From Wrought Iron Railings
Wrought iron, which is mostly used outdoors, is more vulnerable to rusting. Rust usually appears as soon as the moisture gets in touch with the iron. - Scour The Wrought Iron: First of all, scour the wrought iron railings with the help of a dry wire brush. This will help in removing any loose or flaking rust. Run over the wrought iron railings with the help of a dry paintbrush in order to get rid of any small rust chips or dirt.
- Apply Sandpaper: The next step is to apply sandpaper on the wrought iron in order to get rid of the excessive rust. The sandpaper is also very useful in getting rid of any flaking or loose paint. Start the sanding process with the help of coarse sandpaper, which will help in removing the deeper rust. Run over the wrought iron with the help of medium-grit sandpaper.
- Mix Water & Rust Removal: After that, make a mixture of a solution of water and trading rust remover in a container. Go through the label on the rust remover in order to follow a specific mixing directions.
- Brush The Rust Marks: Now, soak a wire brush into the above-created mixture & then brush the rest of the rust marks on the wrought iron railings with the solution, ensuring to brush in a circular motion. - Scrub The Rust Residue: Next, scrub the rust residue with the help of a paintbrush. Run over the wrought iron with the help of a fine steel wool pad, again ensuring to work in circular motions, in order to strengthen the iron's appearance.
- Clean The Wrought Iron: Make a sponge slightly wet with plain water before cleaning the wrought iron in order to get rid of any further residue.
- Apply Rust-resistant Primer: After completing the above steps, make the surface dry & then put on a coat of rust-resistant primer to the wrought iron. Give the primer some time to fully dry.
- Put On Rust-resistant Paint: Finally, put on two more coats of rust-resistant paint with the help of a medium-bristled paintbrush & make sure to apply the paint in light, even strokes. Allow the paint to dry wholly in between coats. If in case you do not want to repaint the whole wrought iron structure, then simply touch it up with matching paint.
