Step By Step Process Of Removing A Panel From Cabinet Door

Sometimes the user wants to change the cabinet door look, which can be done by changing its panel. You can change the panel of the cabinet door from wooden to glass. The step by step process of removing the panel from the cabinet door is mentioned below:
  1. The first step is to remove the door from the cabinet with the help of a drill or the driver. After that position the door upside down. Remove all the hinges as well.
  2. Now the user needs to raise the blade on a table saw to about 1/4 inch. Position the fence at about 1 3/4 inches from the blade.
  3. Turn on the saw and position face of the door upon the saw. Over the blade run all the four sides to cut a kerf, or the channel, all around the inside of the perimeter of the door on the bottom. While this will leave a slight notch on the sides, bottom, as well as on the top of the door, they are small as well as tucked right under the edge.
  4. After the above step is done, then pick up the door and then position it upside down on the worktable. If in case the panel does not drop out by itself, then the user can pry off the thin lip that remains on the cabinet door with the help of a chisel and also push the panel up as well out of the frame.
  5. Now the user needs to measure the length as well as the width of the panel and order a replacement like a piece of glass the same size.
  6. Fill out all the remaining cut lines of saw using the putty crayon, color them with the help of a stain marker. When they are filled with the wood putty, then the user needs to sand as well as refinish the back of the door.
  7. Drop-in the new panel in the cutout exactly from where the old panel was removed. Cut the tip-off a tube of silicone with the help of a utility knife at a slight angle in a way so that the hole at the end of the tip is about 3/8 inch in diameter. Finally, apply the silicone on all along the edge exactly where the new panel meets the wood. Apply a heavy bead of the silicone all around the perimeter of the door.
  8. Fill all the gaps and also make sure that the silicone is equally applied to the wood. Now place heavy objects on the new panel such as books and then wait for 24 hours for the silicone to dry. Finally, install the hinges on the cabinet door and then install it on the cabinet in the same way as it was before.

Tip

Wear safety glasses & also, keep a wet cloth in hand to wipe up any silicone smears. The measurement for a standard raised-panel door is a 2-inch perimeter. However, the measurements may differ.
