Steps To Remove Old Stains From Upholstery?

It has been recommended to remove stains & spills immediately from upholstery. If the user is unable to handle a stain immediately and returns to remove it once it has completely set inside the upholstery. In that case, the steps to follow in order to remove old or set-in stains from upholstery are given below:
  1. Vacuum The Stained Upholstery:
The first step in the process will be to vacuum the stained upholstery. The step helps in removing the loose particles from the stain and allowing the user to see the seriousness of the stain.
  2. Check Cleaning Instructions:
The next step will be to check the furniture for cleaning instructions as some furniture pieces can be cleaned with water while others require various solvents for cleaning. In case the furniture is missing cleaning instructions, the user needs to do a spot test on a hidden upholstery piece by applying a solution containing water, vodka, and vinegar.
  3. Steam The Stain:
For upholstery furniture that can be cleaned with water, the user needs to steam the stain first in order to loosen it up. The steam also makes the stain more responsive to treatment.
  4. Cleaning With Simple Solution:
After steaming, the user needs to prepare a mixture containing cool water and a little dish soap. Once the mixture is ready, the user needs to blot the stain with it using a wrung-out sponge. The user needs to make sure not to rub at the stain as it can pill & weaken the fabric. After that, the user needs to rinse the sponge and use just water in order to bolt out the soapy mixture from the spot. Then the user needs to press dry spot using a paper towel or a cloth. In case, the furniture cannot be cleaned with water, then the user needs to bolt the stain with a cloth containing vodka or vinegar. Once the spot will be dry, the smell of vodka & vinegar will disappear automatically.
  5. Heavy Duty Cleaning:
The step is required if the simple cleaning solution doesn't work on the stain. In this step, the user needs to choose a heavy-duty cleaner in order to remove stain from his furniture. Before applying a heavy-duty cleaner, the user needs to spot test it by using the cleaner on a hidden upholstery piece. Folex is a cleaner that has been recommended by several experts in order to get good results.
  6. Rinse & Repeat:
In case the stain survives the whole process, the user needs to repeat the heavy duty cleaning process in order to get the desired results. Once cleaned, let the furniture air dry before using it again.
