5 Easy Steps And Tips To Get Rid Of The Mini Blinds

Mini blinds protect the windows well by blocking or even filtering light with a minimal amount of fuss, but with the span of time, it can give up its charm. The aluminum blinds bend, the plastic ones crack as well as fade, and the wooden slats may split with the sunlight exposure. If you want to remove mini blinds, you can do so very easily. The easy step by step way for removing mini blinds is mentioned below:
  1. Pull: The first step is to pull the mini-blind cords as this will raise the blinds up to the headrail. The headrail is actually the metal or the vinyl track that is on the top of the blinds and that fits into the mounting brackets. To lock the blinds in that position tug the cords to the left or right side.
  2. Ladder: Place a ladder exactly under the left mounting bracket and then climb up to reach to the hardware.
  3. Slide: In this step the user needs to carefully slide the front panel of the left mounting bracket to the right and then remove it from the bracket. If in case the brackets have tilting front panels, that time flip the panel in the up or down direction as this will help to open the front side of the bracket. Move the ladder and then repeat the same process on the right side, sliding the panel to the left or simply flip the panel.
  4. Mini-blind Head Rail: After the above step is done then the user needs to pull the mini-blind headrail straight out, and freeing it from all the mounting brackets. Wrap down the blind cords carefully around the headrail as this will prevent tangling.
  5. Mounting Brackets: If the user does not want to reinstall the blinds then remove the mounting brackets. Inside both brackets turn the mounting screws in the counterclockwise direction with the help of a Phillips screwdriver. Pull out the brackets off from the wall or window frame. Secure the brackets as well as screws as they can be reused on the blinds on another window.

Important Tips

  • Fill the screw holes in the wall with the drywall joint compound or spackle. In case of screw holes on a painted window frame, simply use latex caulk or use wood putty if the window frame is not painted.
  • If the blind cords are loose then it is a hazard for children as well as for small pets. After the blinds are down, secure the cords with the help of tape or cut them and knot it several times before disposal.
  • Always use a ladder that is tall enough to reach the hardware safely. Most of the ladders are unsafe for standing on the top 2 or 3 rungs.
