While removing the linoleum it is very difficult to eliminate the old glue from it. The reason to remove the old glue from the linoleum is that some glues have the oil content in them and that may react with the new flooring of the vinyl. Some steps to get rid of the linoleum glue from the wood or from the plywood is mentioned below.
  1. Linoleum Cutting: Use a putty knife to cut the linoleum carefully without damaging the wooden surface beneath it. Cutting in the straight lines is highly recommended.
  2. Floor Scraper: Take the floor scraper, and insert its edge under one side of the linoleum that is cut to push upwards in order to remove it. Doing this will also help in getting rid of some of the adhesives as well. This must be done to all small sections of the linoleum until it is removed entirely.
  3. Heat: Use heat gun in order to heat the remaining glue or adhesive on the floor in order to melt it and remove it. Keep the distance of approximately 3' from the gun and adhesive. Avoid touch adhesive using the heat gun.
  4. Scrapping: Follow with the scrapping in a 45-degree angle in order to eliminate the glue. If the glue is still there reheat and scrape it agent to get the desired results.
