How To Remove Drawers: Easy Ways For Removing Drawers

Easy Ways For Removing The Different Types Of The Drawers

Some of the cleaning as well as moving tasks may require removing the drawers from a cabinet, dresser, or from any similar piece of furniture. Removing drawers is a difficult process in most of the cases, but the removing process can vary a little bit that depends on the type of drawer that the user is working with. Below the user can find out how to remove the different drawers:

Wood-Glide And Free-Rolling Drawers

  1. Pull: In order to remove these types of the drawers, the first step is to pull the drawer out as far as it will go. After that stand in front of furniture, hold the handle or knob that is on the front panel, and start sliding the drawer out until it will stop moving. In case the drawer do not have a stopper, that time it should come out easily. It is advisable that the user should maintain enough space between themselves and the front of the drawer so that the drawer can extend all the way out.
  2. Tilt: In this step the user needs to tilt the front of drawer in downward direction. In order to make sure that the back end lifts slightly, push the sides of the drawer down. This will help the wheels that are on the back edge to lift higher than the stopper that is at the front of the track, this will make it possible to pull out the drawer.
  3. Straight Out: Now the user should finish pulling out the drawer straight. Once all wheels or back edge are behind or past the stopper, then slide the drawer off from the track and also out from the opening in the piece of furniture. Repeat the same process for any additional drawers in the furniture.

Metal-Glide Drawers

  1. Open: For these types of the drawers simply open the drawer to identify the track levers that are attached along all the outer walls. There will be a lever on each side of the drawer, exactly at the center of the track. The levers can be either straight or even slightly curved. They are used to prevent the drawer from getting removed until they are disengaged. While doing this the user should be very careful not to get the fingers caught in the overlapping tracks while opening the door. The full-extension slide tracks, that is often found on most of the drawers, have straight tabs.
  2. Press Down: After the above step is done then its time to press down the levers both simultaneously. The best option to perform this is to use thumbs or even forefingers to disengage the levers while at the same time supporting the drawer from the bottom using remaining fingers. This way is helpful in not dropping the drawer in case if it comes out of its track suddenly. Some of the track levers may need to be pulled up then pushed down but this is very rare.
  3. Pull: Pull out the drawer straight while at the same time holding down the levers. The user should continue to sliding the drawer towards themselves, however, it is important to make sure that both levers are disengaged. Once the drawer reaches the end of its tracks, it should lift straight out smoothly. Remove any other drawers from the furniture in the same manner.
