How To Remove Concrete Fence Post With Car Jack: Best Way To Get Rid Of Concrete Fence Post Using Car Jack

The Best Way To Get Rid Of Concrete Fence Post Using Car Jack

If you have a Car jack, and the post is anchored deeply into the ground or into a small bit of concrete, then it is definitely something to consider, even if it's probably not the first way that we would want to use. Simply secure the fence post with a car jack so that it can be pushed up on and lifted out of the ground. This should loosen the fence post enough for you to remove it out of the ground. Given that it truly doesn't involve much work or power, it is a rather simple way to select. The car jack's lever will be primarily responsible for this task. However, you also have alternative options, such digging the fence post out, fracturing the surrounding concrete, dragging it out with a cinder block and a rebar lever, or even hauling it out with your car.

Step 1: Put On Your Safety Gear

Even though this is not the riskiest process in the world, you should nonetheless wear long sleeves and pants to prevent scrapes and scratches. You should also wear eye protection. When you go to remove the fence post, you don't want any fragments of wood or metal to fly back up in your face.

Step 2: Loosen The Base On One Side

It is a good idea to loosen the base on one side of the fence post, the side opposite from where the car jack will be, even if this is not something that everyone does. As a result, dig a few inches down on one side of the fence post using a shovel. Loosen the soil around the concrete if the fence post is supported in a small piece of concrete. You will need to shatter the concrete slab surrounding the fence post with a sledgehammer, a jackhammer, or a concrete saw if the fence post is, by chance, anchored down in a slab of concrete. If the concrete has not been fractured first, car jacks will not be able to lift a fence post from a solid slab of concrete.

Step 3: Drill A Hole And Insert Rebar Or Use A C-Clamp

Making a surface for the carjack to press up on is now necessary. Because of this, you must use a drill to make a hole in the fence post. A standard drill can work if the fence post is made of wood, but if it's made of metal, you'll need a specialized drill and drill bit that can cut through metal. Put a reasonably long piece of rebar into the hole after it has been made. A foot or so should be left open between the fence post and the rebar's exterior border. The longer this piece of rebar, the simpler it will be to use the automobile jack to lift the fence post out of the ground. Another choice at your disposal if you don't want to drill through the post is to merely fasten a sizable C-clamp to the post, about a foot above the ground.

Step 4: Position The Car Jack And Raise It

The automobile jack will now be placed right at the edge of that piece of rebar, underneath it. The mechanism will then be lifted up and pushed into the rebar that you installed in the fence post using the car jack's lever. To lift the piece of rebar and subsequently the fence post, simply keep pushing on the lever until it is sufficiently loose to be pulled or pushed out of the ground.

Step 5: Fill In The Hole

The moment has come, if you desire, to patch up the gap left by the fence post removal.
