How To Remove Carpet Doorway Strip: Step By Step Process Of Removing Carpet Doorway Strip

Step By Step Process Of Removing Carpet Doorway Strip

With the passage of time, the edges of carpet at doorways can wear out and become thin. In order to repair the carpet, it is important to first get rid of the door strip and then cut off the edge of the carpet. You can only remove the surface strips, crimp-down door strips are possible, but only barely to remove with bending the upper edge. Install a new door strip & give your carpet a professional as well as attractive look. It is easy to install a door strip provided you use the right tools & follow the right technique:
  1. Lift The Edge Of The Strip: First of all, you need to put down a thin wooden block even & uniform on the carpet side by side to the edge of the door strip. Place, fit, or push the tip of a wood chisel into the seam betwixt the edge of the strip and the carpet, before prying down in opposition to the block in order to lift the edge of the strip. Keep doing this at several points to fully remove the edge of the strip from the carpet.
  2. Remove The Old Strip: Now, pull up the edge of the carpet in order to uncover or reveal the screws that attach the flat part or section of the strip to the subfloor or concrete slab. Eliminate the wood screws or screws for anchor with the help of a suitable screwdriver. Place, fit or push the chisel at the outer edge of the strip, and lift up on the handle in order to pry up and get rid of the old strip.
  3. Hold The New Carpet Strip Through The Doorway: Next, take hold of the new carpet strip through the doorway side by side with the edge of the carpet. Move the strip either way smoothly so that the machined holes in the base line up with the holes in the floor where the first or earliest screws were pulled out. Make a visible impression or stain on the strip in line with the faces of the doorjambs at each side, with the help of a felt-tip marker.
  4. Position The Strip At The Doorway: After that, trim off the leftovers or residue at each end of the door strip, with the help of a hacksaw. Get rid of the burrs at the cut ends of the strip with the help of a 100-grit sanding block. Place the strip at the doorway but make sure that the upper edge should be positioned towards the carpet, and secure the base to the floor by driving one of the provided screws across each machined hole and into the subfloor or concrete anchors.
  5. Apply Quick-drying Glue: Remove any carpet strings or raised pile by pinching or snipping at the edge of the carpet using scissors. Put or spread some quick-drying glue through the trimmed edge, and insert the edge into the door strip.
  6. Adjust The Edge Of The Door Strip: Adjust or install the edge of the door strip gently onto the carpet, with the help of a rubber mallet. To do this, tap the surface of the strip throughout, by applying moderate strokes using the mallet. Do this several times as long as the strip fully secures the edge of the carpet as well as has a uniform appearance.
