If you want to remove burn marks from the porcelain sink then you just need to collect all the given items and follow the step by step process afterward. Here is the list of required items and steps for this process:

Things You Will Need

  • Screwdriver Pipe Wrench & Bucket Abrasive Powder Cleanser
  • Scrubbing Pad Large Sponge & Painter's Tape
  • Plastic Sheeting Drop Cloth & Clean Cloths
  • Putty Knife & Hard-Water Deposit Remover
  • Wet-Dry 400- to 600-Grit Sandpaper & Tack Cloth
  • Wooden Stirring Stick & Paint Roller Or High-Quality Varnish Paintbrush
  • Epoxy Refinishing Kit & Paint Tray
  • Rubbing Alcohol & Rubber Gloves
  • Goggles & N95 Face Mask Or Respirator

Steps For This Process

  • First of all you need to clean your sink thoroughly with your abrasive cleanser and pad. Rinse & towel dry as this will remove the surface dirt and grime.
  • Mask off your surrounding area by using painter's tape and the plastic sheeting.
  • Remove your metal drain from your sink and also detach your pipe drain first by simply unscrewing the large nut on your pipe which is just beneath the drain. Pull down on your pipe slowly to remove it from your sink.
  • Now unscrew your large nut just below your sink that keeps your metal flange and a metal drain in place. Simply turn it counterclockwise to remove it properly. Then set your large nut aside.
  • Next you need to push up from below or you can also use a flat-head screwdriver to pry all the way around a rim of your drain flange to loosen it from your plumber's putty that forms a seal betwixt the drain flange and your sink. Lift your metal drain from the sink. Set your large bucket beneath your drain hole to catch any spills or drips while cleaning and restoring your sink.
  • Now you need to apply your putty knife to remove all the caulk or plumber's putty from your sink. Simply hold your putty knife at about a 45-degree angle to your material which is requiring removal and then scrape against it to lift it up carefully. Discard in your trash.
  • After that, you need to apply a hard-water deposit remover(liquid dish soap will also work for removing burn marks) to your sink and then scrub with your abrasive pad. Rinse and repeat until all hard-water deposits are removed. Always try to wear rubber gloves and goggles for protection.
  • Now you need to sand the surface of your sink with the help of a wet-dry 400- to 600-grit sandpaper. Buff in small circles across the whole surface of your sink. Scratching the surface of your sink with your sandpaper will allow the epoxy finish paint to adhere to your sink. Rinse your sink clean to remove residue.
  • Wipe your sink with your tack cloth to remove any extra sandpaper or deposits on your sink which is caused by your sandpaper before applying your epoxy finish.
  • Now you need to mix all the two parts of your refinish epoxy together following package guidance. Then you need to pour the mixture into your paint tray. Wait until you are ready to coat your porcelain sink with your epoxy paint. You need to wear an N95 face mask to protect yourself against breathing in any potentially toxic fumes.
  • Finally apply the epoxy finish to your sink with the help of a fine-bristle varnish brush, a short nap roller, or an airless sprayer can also be useful in this project. Avert overlapping any areas with too much epoxy. Wait at least one complete hour before applying the 2nd coat. Let your sink dry up to 3 days before reassembly and use it as normal. You need to clean up with rubbing alcohol or mineral spirits.
