Removing Laminates
- Turn Off: The first step is to turn off the gas range and water supply and remove sink or faucet carefully.
- Determine: Now determine how the laminate countertop is protected. They are glued most of the times.
- Removed: Laminates are glued with contact cement and remains sticky for lifetime but the acetone(fingernail polish remover) can easily break the glued.
- Insert: Now insert the putty knife into a joint or in a crack of laminate counter and inject some acetone under the joint. It will take some time to soften the glue.
- Pull: It's easy to pull the laminates with hand. Pull and remove the laminates countertop. Clean all
the glue under it with a putty knife and acetone.
Replacing Laminates
- Contact Cement: After removing the old laminate apply some contact cement on the under surface of the laminate countertop.
- Beltsander: Now keep the laminate countertop on the working area and sand the corners and edges of the laminate countertop with medium grit of belt sander.
- Glue: Now glue the edges and corners of the laminate countertop with a paintbrush and let the laminate countertop dry for maximum 24 hours. Leave the fan and windows opens until the laminates countertop fully dries.
