Step By Step Instructions

  1. Remove The Screws Holding Grab Bar: First of all, using a screwdriver or power drill, pull out the screws taking hold of the grab bar or bars. Clean or wipe the area where the grab bars were fixed with the help of a bathroom cleaning solution and a sponge.
  2. Use Fiberglass Patch Kit: You can use a fiberglass patch kit if in case you have pulled out the grab bars from a fiberglass tub or shower enclosure. The kit comprises of an epoxy, a patch as well as some fiberglass paint. You will get a huge range of colors when selecting your kit & choose a color that will match the color of your tub or shower enclosure. Your kit will need you to sand any rough spots where you had installed the grab bars, before affixing the patch using the provided epoxy. After the allocated drying time, as recommended on the kit instructions, you can paint over the patch using the paint provided.
  3. Use Mortar To Patch The Hole: You can use mortar in order to patch the hole where the screws were when it comes to the tub or shower enclosure was tiled. The only exclusion to this rule would be to replace the actual tiles that will have an effect if replacement tile is available. Otherwise spread the mortar to the holes with the help of a putty knife. As soon as it has dried, sand it firmly with the help of a fine gauge sand paper. Paint over the tile using a paint color that almost matches the color of the tile.
  4. Remove The Grab Bar Screws & Fixtures: Pull out the grab bar screws as well as fixtures from a painted drywall surface with the help of a screwdriver or power drill. Apply wall spackle over the holes using a putty knife. Allow the spackle to dry for at least an hour before sanding firmly using fine gauge sand paper. Paint over the patched areas using wall paint that matches the already existing paint, or be ready to repaint the entire wall.
  5. Use A Wrench If Grab Bars Were Installed Using Nuts & Bolts: If in case your grab bars were installed using nuts & bolts, then you can use a wrench. Turn the nuts counter-clockwise as long as they have been loosened, before removing the rest of the way by hand. Read & go through the proper patching instructions based on whether the tub as well as shower enclosure is composed of fiberglass, drywall or tile.
