Step By Step Guide To Refelt A Pool Table

A pool table is regarded as a piece of elegant design for the indoor sports room or patio. The pool tables are usually made from the hardwood or composite materials, felt is its most vulnerable part. The felt is actually a type of the fabric that is secured to the surface of the pool table. The easy and best way for refelting a pool table is mentioned below:
  1. Measure: The first step is to take a measuring tape, and measure the size of the pool table and then purchase the replacement felt at the local home improvement depot or sports shop. It is advisable to buy an extra 12 inches to the width and length of actual measurements of the pool table. The felts are usually available in a number of colors, so while replacing the felt the user can whether go with the same color as replacing the color.
  2. Remove The Rails: With the help of a crescent wrench, remove all the bolts which attach the rails to the underside of the table. The rails are also covered with the felt, so the user needs to refelt the rails with the tabletop. Place the rails on the floor that is adjacent to its position in the pool table so that the user will not make any mistake later of attaching the rail on the wrong side.
  3. Remove The Old Felt: In this step the user needs to remove all the old felt simply by pulling out the staples which are on the edge of the felt, with the help of a staple remover. It is important to make sure to remove all the old felt from the tabletop.
  4. Lay The Felt: Place the new purchased felt on the tabletop and check the felt for any damages or stains. Using a sharp scissor cut the felt with the border of the tabletop as a guide. There must be enough leftover felt that is used to refelt the rails.
  5. Staple The Felt: After the cuts have been made, attach the felt into the tabletop with the help of a stapler. Start the stapling process right from the mid-portion of one end then staple down the left as well as right edges of the felt. From the opposite end try to pull the felt tight and staple down in the same way as the user did on the other end. Now staple all the side edges of the table. It is important to make sure that all the staples are equally placed from each other and line up nicely. On reaching the pool table pockets, cut 3 slits on each of pockets and after that wrap as well as staple down the felt on the edges of the pockets. Wrap down all the rails with the remaining felt and again pull the felt tight before stapling.
  6. Reassembly: Atlast, reassemble the pool table simply by attaching down all the rails into its proper place with the help of the same crescent wrench.
