- Measure: The first step is to take a measuring tape, and measure the size of the pool table and then purchase the replacement felt at the local home improvement depot or sports shop. - Remove The Rails: With the help of a crescent wrench, remove all the bolts which attach the rails to the underside of the table. - Remove The Old Felt: In this step the user needs to remove all the old felt simply by pulling out the staples which are on the edge of the felt, with the help of a staple remover. It is important to make sure to remove all the old felt from the tabletop.
- Lay The Felt: Place the new purchased felt on the tabletop and check the felt for any damages or stains. Using a sharp scissor cut the felt with the border of the tabletop as a guide. There must be enough leftover felt that is used to refelt the rails.
- Staple The Felt: After the cuts have been made, attach the felt into the tabletop with the help of a stapler. Start the stapling process right from the mid-portion of one end then staple down the left as well as right edges of the felt. From the opposite end try to pull the felt tight and staple down in the same way as the user did on the other end. Now staple all the side edges of the table. It is important to make sure that all the staples are equally placed from each other and line up nicely. On reaching the pool table pockets, cut 3 slits on each of pockets and after that wrap as well as staple down the felt on the edges of the pockets. Wrap down all the rails with the remaining felt and again pull the felt tight before stapling.
