Step By Step Process Of Putting Chicken Wire On Cabinet Doors

Chicken wire can make your old cabinet look like an antique-style kitchen accessory. The chicken wire will help you add an interesting visual pattern to the cabinet, as well as also allows you to see inside. However, this will work only with a cabinet having a raised or inset face supported on a framed door. This is an easy task to do provided you have a few tools, put in a little effort and have patience. Chicken wire is not only for chickens these days, but it can give your cabinets a beautiful simple farmhouse flair pliable & soft as well as user-friendly. You can create a number of unique designs when it comes to making chicken wire cabinet doors, such as cut square, round or octagonal shapes. You can color it with metallic silver, gold or copper paint & make it sparkle with glitter paint or install fabric or embossed faux leather behind it. You can also try chicken wire under glass when it comes to a sophisticated, classic look.

Things You Will Need

  • Phillips Head Screwdriver
  • Hammer & Tape Measure
  • Chicken Wire & Wire Snips
  • Staples (Short) & Staple Gun
  • Hand Saw
  • Edge Molding (If Desired)
  • Edging Nails (If Desired)

Step By Step Process

  1. Remove The Screws From Hinges: First of all, you need to pull out the screws from the hinges that secures or affixes the door to the cabinet and take down the door.
  2. Remove The Face Panel Of The Cabinet Door: Now, using the claw of your hammer, take out the face panel of the cabinet door from the frame. Pry the nailed or glued edge of the face panel from the frame and remove the piece. The face panel, which is entirely dependent on the door style, may be positioned on the exterior or interior side of the frame. You will be able to see the edges of the face panel in order to ascertain or establish which side to remove it from.
  3. Roll Out Your Chicken Wire: Unroll your chicken wire and press it as long as it lies completely flat. If the face panel of your cabinet door came off in one piece, then you can use this as a template. Lay the panel on the chicken wire before cutting out a piece the exact same size with the help of wire snips. If your panel broke or you did not have one to start with, then it is important to measure the opening of the door frame, add 1/2 inch to each measurement as well as cut a piece of chicken wire to match.
  4. Turn You Cabinet Door Frame Face Down: Next, turn your cabinet door frame positioning its face down. If you need to pull out the door handle in order to make sure that it lies flat, take out the screws on the inside and pull off the handle. Position your chicken wire on the frame but you need to ensure that the chicken wire extends onto the frame at least 1/4 inch and no more than 1/2 inch all around.
  5. Install Your Handle & Rehang Your Cabinet Door: Finally, load short staples (1/8-inch leg) into your staple gun before stapling the chicken wire to the frame every 2 inches. Reinstall your handle before rehanging your cabinet door.
