Step By Step Process To Install Casters On A Cabinet

Attaching caster wheels is an exceptional way to make heavy furniture including a cabinet very easy to clean behind or to reorganize. You can easily roll your furniture around the room as required. If in case your floors are rough, then at that time, getting caster wheels with a locking mechanism is a very good option so that your furniture only moves when you intend it to. In order to attach casters on a cabinet, go through the below-mentioned steps carefully:

Step 1: Selecting The Right Type Of Caster

Two major types of casters are used in the modern era when it comes to installing casters on furniture including cabinets: Screw-on and Post. Screw-on casters usually include a plate that is fixed to the caster mechanism & is secured to the base of the furniture. Screw-on casters are generally more functional, which in turn, makes it less decorative as compared to a post caster. Some screw-on's also include swivels and some are set in a permanent position. The best thing about swiveling casters is that it allows the furniture to move in any direction. As far as the post casters are concerned, it needs a hole to be breaking through the furniture leg or corner. Then the caster post is simply put into the hole, as a result of it, there is no need for the screws. However, keep in mind that the caster will fall out if in case the furniture is raised off the ground.

Step 2: Corners Should Be Ready

Most of the furniture items including cabinets produced in factories need some assembly, therefore there is generally very little of any extra support at the corners. So you need to make sure that the corners can easily tackle the casters. To fulfill this, calculate the depth of the leg or toe-kick so that you can decide about the amount of the caster you will want to come through from the bottom. After that, trim the pieces of scrap wood very much sturdy to take hold of the caster in place. Now affix the scrap wood in place, make it dry, & then make sure that it is secure before installing the caster.

Step 3: Installing Your Casters

Finally, it is time to install the casters, & start by flipping the piece of furniture over so that the base is facing up. If in case you are installing screw-on casters, set the plate in place and secure the edges plentiful to the edges of the wood, before installing the screws. As soon as all the 4 casters are installed, flip it back over. If you are installing post casters, point the piece onto its side, come through your holes in each corner, and then install the caster assembly. Now point the base of the piece back to the floor and then check whether the casters are able to support the weight or not.
