- Measure: To begin the process the user needs to measure the inside of the opening where the tension rod will span. Once the measuement is done than divide the measurement in half and then add 6 to 12 inches to it. This will be the length for the two pieces of the tension rod.
- Metal Tubes: After the above step is done then the user needs to buy the two metal tubes from the hardware or home improvement store, buy the tubes according to calculations done in Step One. Both the two tubes should be different in size so its easy to slide one inside the other.
- Sturdy Metal Spring: The user needs to choose a sturdy metal spring that will fit easily inside the larger tube.
- Rubber End Cap: To one end of each tube attach a rubber end cap. Then carefully insert the spring into the open end of the large tube. Push the uncapped end of small tube into the larger tube.
- Pull: In order to compress the spring carefully push the 2 pieces of the tension rod towards each other. Against the inside of the opening set one end of the rod that user will be covering. To form a straight line across the opening when it expands then line the other end up. Until the rod fits snugly against each sides of the opening, slowly release the spring.
