Easy Step By Step Process Of Polishing A Marble Table

The marble is the best option for countertops, tabletops, etc. While it helps bring natural beauty to the home, it requires care to prevent damage as well as stains. With just a little time, the user can polish the natural or the cultured marble, to make it look new & shine again. If you want to polish your marble table, then go through all the steps carefully & achieve the desired result:
  1. Gather The Supplies: The first step is to gather all the supplies like a mild detergent, 3-4 soft cloths, a polishing compound, a poultice for stain removal, a low-speed polisher with a felt wheel, and finally a marble sealant.
  2. Tape The Area: All around the marble, tape down the area. If the marble is surrounded by any other surfaces like as wood and that could get damaged by the products, then protect them using the painter’s tape.
  3. Clean The Surface: With the help of a mild detergent and soft rag clean the marble table. It is advisable to test a small area before cleaning the entire marble table. If there are stains, then try removing them with the detergent simply by gently working the area with the help of a damp cloth right over the stain.
  4. Apply The Poultice: This step is optional, a poultice will help to remove all the stains that have settled over the porous surface of the marble table. Polishing the marble will not help to remove the stains. instead, they will be sealed in.
  5. Apply A Small Amount Of Polishing Compound: Check the side of the container for the proper measurements, this is because different products recommend different usage amount. Put the polishing compound on the small section on the table from where to begin work. It is important to remember that do not apply a polishing compound to the full table of marble at once.
  6. Low-speed Polisher Or A Soft Cloth: While the user can use either, however it takes longer time to use a soft cloth, and if the user does not keep up the same level of the pressure all over it could affect the results, so a low-speed polisher is the best option. If the user has a drill, then replace the drill bit using a felt-top sanding disk so that it can be used as a polisher.
  7. Work In Small Sections: Work on one small section at a time as this will help to create an even finish and also avoid having the polishing compound to dry out. Besides this, working in the small sections will also help to evenly distribute the polish all over and this is because the users are able to add just small amounts of polish as they go. Start the job in a corner and then workaround to the entire area of the table to make sure the polish is applied evenly. If the user starts in the middle, then they may miss a spot.
  8. Work In The Polish: If using a soft cloth, then make tight, and do circular movements. If using a polisher, that time slowly move it in a controlled circular motion. When finishing with the flat sides, move to the corners using a soft rag, continuing the circular movements. It is advisable to use a low to medium speed if using a polisher.
  9. Remove The Excess Polish: Take a dry cloth for wiping away the residue, and then finish-up using a damp cloth to ensure that the surface is clean.
  10. Dry: Allow the marble to completely dry. Wait for 24 hours before applying the sealant.
