How To Paint Laminate Furniture Shabby Chic: Steps To Paint

Steps To Paint Laminate Furniture Shabby Chic

Shabby Chic is a style option having an appearance similar to antique furniture. The user can paint his laminate furniture shabby chic by following the below-given steps:
  1. Preparation:
Before beginning the painting process, the user needs to make necessary preparations e.g. covering all such areas of the furniture which he doesn't want to paint by using a painter's tape. If the furniture hardware is easily removable, the user needs to remove them using a screwdriver. Also, the user needs to cover the workspace area with a newspaper in order to protect the area from getting paint stains.
  2. Sand The Furniture:
After that, the user needs to sand the furniture edges along with sharp areas by using fine-grit sandpaper. The step will give the furniture a distressed look and will also smooth the sharp areas and edges of the furniture. The user can also sand over the paint layer without affecting the laminate layer to give the furniture a more distressed look. The sanding dust should be removed using a soft rag or tack cloth.
  3. Rub First Layer Of Candle Wax:
The next step will be to rub candle wax over the entire furniture until it covers most of the furniture. The step makes the paint removal process easy.
  4. Apply Paint:
After that, the user needs to apply paint over the waxed furniture by using a paint brush. It has been recommended by experts to use antique shade latex paint. A single coat of paint will be enough because the user has to sand it down later in order to give the furniture a shabby chic look. Once painted, the user needs to let it dry completely.
  5. Rub Second Layer Of Candle Wax Followed By Paint:
The next step will be to rub the second layer of candle wax over the dried paint and then apply different color paint over it. Once the paint coat dries, the user needs to apply the second coat of the same paint over it and let it dry completely as well.
  6. Sand The Surface:
The last step will be to give the furniture a shabby chic look by sanding it down using fine grit sandpaper. The user needs to focus on the areas that in normal circumstances receive more wear such as a table top, edges, etc. It has been recommended to sand paint at different areas of the furniture in order to give the furniture a complete distressed look. If the user has removed hardware from the furniture, he needs to screw them back to the furniture.
