Part 1: Sanding And Priming The Cabinets

Simply dip a sponge in the TSP solution, wring out the excess solution, and wipe down each cabinet inside as well as outside. After that wipe down each cabinet with the help of clean cloth so that any excess residue is removed.
  2. Doors And Hardware: After wiping the area, next step is to remove all the hardware and doors, try to pull out drawers and pop off all false drawer plates as well. This will help the user to work smoothly without any obstruction. It's advisable to store all the hardware in the bag so that it can be easily traced after finishing the job.
  3. Sanding: Sanding is important step in painting the bathroom cabinets, it will remove all the existing paint, use high-grit sandpaper and start sanding from outside of the doors, panels, and baseboard. The user is not required to remove all the traces of the finish, instead just make outer surfaces of cabinets coarse enough so that the primer adhere to it strongly. The user should work out for any rough edges and aim for a smooth finish. The user should sand the area in a smooth circular motion. Try to run the sandpaper as straight as possible along all the edges and narrow panels. Once the sanding is done then clean all the debris or dust with a cloth or a Shop-Vac.
  4. Apply The Primer: Now its time to apply the basic coat of the primer to all the areas where the paint job is needed, apply the primer in the thin and even coat. One of the important points is that Primers should be formulated for use with the type of paint that the user is going to use for instance Water-based primers should be used only with water-based paints. After the primer is done let it dry then again lightly sand the area so that the surface area will be uniform.
  5. Painter’s Tape: Now to mask the underside and inner edges of the cabinet apply the masking tape. Also, apply the painter's tape to the area where the cabinet meets the wall.
