Step By Step Instructions Of Painting A Pocket Door

As the name suggests, a pocket door usually cease to be visible into a pocket betwixt walls and only makes an appearance when you are looking to close off a doorway that is generally open. Such doors provides great adaptability mostly in small homes where living space is scarce and in demand. If you are looking to paint a pocket door, it is really no different when it comes to painting a regular door, barring that you first need to decide if you want to remove the door from its track before painting. If you have painted the door in the doorway, then leave it exposed for at least 24 hours in order to keep away from scraping the paint when you push it back into its pocket. In order to paint a pocket door, go through the below-mentioned steps carefully & achieve the desired result of your work:
  • Remove The Door From The Doorway
First of all, you need to take out the door from the doorway if it is possible to take it off the track and place it on two sawhorses for painting. If you are not able to take out the door from its track, then you can paint it in the doorway.
  • Lay A Painter’s Tarp Underneath The Door
Place a painter’s tarp underneath the door in order to keep stray drips of paint from damaging the floor. Protect the door’s hardware on both sides by applying blue painter’s tape. If you are going to paint the door in the track, cover all door trim adjacent to the door. Seal the edges of the tape gently in order to prevent paint bleeding. Push the door to its fully exposed position if you are planning to paint it without removing it from the track.
  • Paint The One Side Of The Door, Starting From Top To Bottom
Open a can of latex enamel before stirring thoroughly with the help of a paint stick. Take a paint tray & pour some of the paint into it. First, select one side of the door to paint, beginning at the top of the door and moving down, paint any recessed panels, with the help of an angled sash paintbrush. Paint the door’s center stile, before the horizontal rails, & then again work from top to bottom. Paint the rest of the vertical stiles from top to bottom. For a flat door without any recesses, paint from left to right and top to bottom.
  • Paint The Other Side Of The Door
Now, paint the other side of the door, following the same steps as you painted the first side. If you are not able to enter the adjoining room through another doorway, then you need to wait at least 24 hours before sliding the door back into the pocket and then shut it again to paint the other side. If you are going to paint the door on sawhorses, then wait 24 hours before flipping the door over in order to paint the second side.
  • Return The Door To Its Track
Finally, return the door to its track nearly 24 hours after the last coat of paint, if you have removed it from the doorway. Take out the blue painter’s tape. Remove the door of its pocket only a few inches. Paint the lip of the door, which is the only part of the door that is visible when it is put away.
