Painting is a very easy process that will make your old piece of furniture, like the one folding chairs, look brand new again. But when it comes to painting plastic folding chairs, it becomes a difficult task as the plastic is very inexpensive as well as a flexible material, that can be configured to any shape according to your choice. One of the challenges that you will face while painting a plastic material is that its surface is extremely smooth, which in turn, makes it very resistant to paint adherence. Materials Required

  • Plastic Bowl & Sandpaper
  • Soap & Ammonia
  • Sponge & Wash Cloth
  • Latex Primer & Latex Paint
  • 2 Polyester Paintbrushes

Step By Step Process

  1. First of all, combine 3 tablespoons of soap with a half cup of ammonia into one gallon(3.8 liters) of water, in a plastic bowl.
  2. Now, in order to make sure that there is no dirt or any kind of oil grease remaining on the table surface, cleanse the plastic table with the help of a wet cloth. If in case, there is dirt or grease on the table surface, then the paint will not get stuck on the surface perfectly.
  3. The next step is to rinse out the soap with the help of clean water & a piece of clean cloth. If in case, there is a soap residue left on the surface of the table, then the primer won't stick properly. Then make the plastic table completely dry with the help of a dry towel or rag.
  4. After that, you need to perform the sanding process on the table surface. In order to get rid of the shine on the table, start sanding down the table with the help of sandpaper. You need to be satisfied with the shine not being there on the entire table surface. One thing that you need to keep in mind is that don't wipe the table too hard as doing this may cause scratches on the surface of the table.
  5. Now, with the help of a polyester paintbrush, spread the latex primer to the entire table. Applying primer will assist the paint to adhere to the surface perfectly. Then make the primer dry completely for overnight.
  6. Finally, paint the table with the help of latex paint and use another polyester brush for this purpose. If possible then select a dry hot day for painting process because the paint will dry expeditiously and adhere better.
