In order to keep your farmhouse table look shiny always, you need to paint it at regular intervals and to do so follow the below given steps carefully:
  1. Seprate Any Pieces: The first step is to separate the piece that the user dont want to stuck together.
  2. Sanding: The second step is to sand down the tabletop to remove any thick varnish or any imperfections. Use some medium-grit sandpaper with orbital sander to sand down the top of the table smooth. Preform the sanding job slowly and be careful so that surface is not gouge. Sand down enough which means the table is not too glossy and the primer will stick strongly also don’t worry about removing all of the varnish, if incase the table is unvarnished, that time use 150-grit sandpaper to sand down the table’s surface smooth.
  3. Wiping: Once the sanding is done then wipe down the surface area using a tack cloth to remove any dust, debris, and residue from the table, wipe the top and legs as well. Its very important to clean and dry all surfaces so that the primer will adhere better.
  4. Prime And Paint To Legs: The next step is to use the roll-on/brush-on primer. Roll-on/brush-on formulas is best suited to the high-traffic surfaces like tables, since these formulas tend to be thicker and more durable than spray-on primer. Apply 1 coat of primer using a foam roller or medium to small brush to the table legs. Let the primer layer dry before applying a paint coat and letting it dry as well. Apply the water-based paint on the base so it would dry quickly.
  5. Staining The Tabletop: Apply the first coat of the stain in the direction of the grain of wood, but using a very light strokes. The user can use any inexpensive brush for this job as it can be thrown away after the job is done. Try to use the smallest amount of the stain to cover the area, incase it is light then apply more.
  6. Lint-Free Cloth: After the stain is applied to the table top let it cure for about 5 to 10 minutes, after that take a lint-free cloth and slowly go over the stained area, this process is used for removing the extra stain and not taking off finish.
  7. First Coat To Dry: Let the first coat of stain to dry atleast for a couple of hours, and reapply thin coats as required. The stain looks much lighter after drying than it looks when first applied, the user need not to worry about this, the user can go for 3 or more coats to get the desired look.
  8. Polyurethane: After getting the desired look in the stain, its time to seal it by using polyurethane. Its good option to apply the polyurethane for sealing that will protect the finish and will be easy to clean in future. Use the water-based polyurethane for this as its very easy to apply and clean-up much easier than an oil-based finish.
