Steps

  • Remove The Shelves: If it is possible for the users, then they need to start by detaching the shelves and its brackets as well.
  • Sand The Wood: Then they need to sand down the whole surface of the bookcase along with the shelves by using the sandpaper. The users need to detach the glossy coat from the pre-existing paint and then they need to gently rough it by using the fine-grit sandpaper. Once the users finished up the sanding process then after this the wood should feel smooth and even as well.
  • Remove The Dust: Then they need to detach the residue of the sawdust within the surface of the bookcase. The users need to use the vacuum so as to get rid of the dust within the gaps or the users can also use the wet rag so as to get rid of dust.
  • Apply The Primer: Then the users need to apply a layer of the primer over the entire surface of the bookcase and the shelves within it. If in case the users have an idea of applying the solid color to the bookcase then they need to use the soft-bristled brush so as to apply the coat of the primer within the wood grain direction. The users are advised to choose the oil-build primer for the oil-build paint, latex primer for the latex paint. Then they need to let the primer to get dried off completely.
  • Apply The Paint: Once the primer layer is dried completely then the users need to apply the layer of the paint over the entire surface of the bookcases including the shelves as well. They need to apply the paint within the wood grain direction and they need to remove the unneeded paint within the holes of the brackets if in case the users detached the shelves for the painting process. They need to use the wood pick or the nail so as to scrape away the paint within those holes. Then they need to let the paint get dried off completely before applying two more coats of the paint over the surface of the bookcase followed by the sanding process in between each paint coat. Then allow the paint to get dried off completely and then re-attach the shelves back to their actual position.
