Easy Steps Of Releasing Or Opening An RV Awning

The RV Awning Keeps the user cool on hot summer days. The main benefit of RV awning is that it will protect the user from the harmful effects of ultraviolet rays. If you are unable to open RV awning then follow the steps shown below in order to open it:

Step 1: Releasing The Arms

  1. Loosen: The first step is to lose the rafter knobs on each of the awning support arms. There must be a black knob right on the back of each awning arm. Gently release them, so that the awning arms are able to move, it is important to be very careful in not unscrewing them all the way.
  2. Travel Locks: In this step release the travel locks on each of the support arms. In order, to release the travel locks, simply squeeze the support tabs that are on the awning. These tabs hold the two arms together. When the user will squeeze them, they will hear a click means that they have been properly released.
  3. Ratchet Mechanism: Switch to the ratchet mechanism for the roll-down position. The ratchet mechanism is actually a directional lever that is located at the end of the awning which is closest to the front of the RV. With the help of the awning rod, try to switch the lever to the open position. All the RVs that come with an awning will also have an awning rod as well. The ratchet mechanism must be labeled with both open as well as close when going to switch the lever.

Step 2: Securing The Awning

  1. Roll Out: Using the awning rod start rolling out the awning. Hook up the black pull strap right on the awning with the help of an awning rod. With the rod to pull out the strap straight, this will open the awning. The user can use the hands to pull out the strap until the awning is fully extended.
  2. Rafters: After the above step now slide the rafters up the awning arms and then lock them. The rafters or the inner arms must be pushed onto the top of the opposing arms. After the rafters or the inner arms slide all the way into position, there will be a noise of click that will lock them. If in case the rafter knobs are loose, then the arms will slide easily.
  3. Tighten: Tight the rafter knobs on both of the rafter. The black knobs that are loosened earlier must be tightened now. To make the fabric taut press down on the awning arms, and then tighten the knobs of the rafter as this will help to keep the rafters locked in place. Make sure to tighten each side of the awning.
  4. Raise The Awning: Using the handles of each arm to raise the awning, lift up the handle on the arm and then raise up the awning to the desired height. If in case the user is doing this by itself, then it is best to raise the awning up a little bit at a time on both sides. If the user has another person helping, then they can raise both sides at a time.
