How To Mull Two Aluminum Windows Together: Step By Step Process Of Mulling 2 Aluminum Windows Together

Step By Step Process Of Mulling Two Aluminum Windows Together

Windows are frequently combined to form a single, larger unit. A house benefits from windows' value and elegance, and larger windows can enhance the beauty of a property. When two regular-sized windows are mulled together, it appears as though there is one larger window. Any window type, even aluminum windows, can be linked with ease. Although mulling windows can be a bit of a difficulty, it is possible to combine two windows into a single, considerably larger unit with the right materials.

Things You'll Need

  • Tin Snips, Utility knife & Hammer
  • Pliers, Level, Clamp & Hacksaw
  • Drill, Screws & Drill Bit
  • Caulk Gun & Staple Gun
  • Staples & Silicone Sealant

Step By Step Process

  • Cut The Nailing Fin Off Each Window
Use tin snips and a tool knife to cut the nailing fin off each window. To begin, use snips to cut one corner up to the window frame. Then, work your way down the window, scoring the flange with a utility knife. Circumambulate the window with the knife.
  • Bend The Flange With Pliers And Pound It
After being scored, bend the flange with pliers and pound it until it separates. Follow the same steps to remove the jamb from the second window, repeating the process for each side of the flange.
  • Cut The Inside Corners Of The Window Open
Use a hacksaw to cut the inside corners of the window open. Cut horizontally to complete the opening after cutting vertically across the corner to the bottom groove. Cut the window's four interior corners.
  • Apply Three Beads Of Silicone Sealant
Along the inside jamb of the two windows that are being mulled together, apply three beads of silicone sealant. One bead should go where the nailing fin was, and the other two should go at the top and bottom edges of the jamb.
  • Verify That The Windows Are Level
Verify that the windows are level by sliding them together. To make sure they are adequately tightened, clamp them together. Join the jambs with staples. Place a staple 3 inches from either end, then space them 5 inches apart up the jamb.
  • Attach A Mull Plate To The Jamb's External Side
When the two windows meet, attach a mull plate to the jamb's external side. Pan head screws should be used to drill it into the jamb. The clasp holding the two windows together should be removed. Verify the window's level and plumbness. Make that the window is operating properly and that everything is properly sealed.
