How To Move A Memory Foam Mattress: Two Easy Methods & Useful Tips Of Moving A Foam Mattress

Two Easy Methods & Useful Tips Of Moving A Memory Foam Mattress

The foam mattresses are usually more flexible than the traditional ones. However, the foam mattress needs a special packing as well as handling to prevent it from any damage during transit. Most of the foam mattresses usually have two or more layers that are bundled together. Improper packing as well as handling can easily separate the layers and then tear the foam apart. In order to move a memory foam mattress from one place to another, go through the below-mentioned methods and also read some of the useful tips for performing this process.

Method 1

  1. Take mattress shipping carton, that must be sized to fit the mattress, close one end of it, and then seal it with the help of packing tape. Moving a memory foam mattress in a box that is too large easily allows shifting as well as possible damage, and a box that is too small can easily crush the mattress. Place the box on the flat floor with the open end exactly near one end of the memory foam mattress.
  2. Around the one end of the foam mattress slide-in the open end of the box. If required, the user needs to keep sliding the box until all the mattress is inside it. In many of the cases, the user is required to lift as well as adjust the parts of the mattress while sliding the box. The mattress must lie completely flat inside the box, with no folds or the wrinkles.
  3. Finally seal the open end of the box, and then transport the mattress flat. It is advisable not to stand the box in the upright position on any edge.

Method 2

  1. Firstly, place the mattress in the bag, if the user got the right size bag, the foam mattress must slide in smooth, just like a card which is fitting inside an envelope.
  2. Seal it up, go for the sealable bag and this is because the parcel will be very easier to work with. In this step, the user needs to make sure that the bed is properly secured inside, and it is tightly sealed. Even when using the sealable bag, the user must double or even triple reinforce the edges with the help of duct tape.
  3. Also tape down the valve from the vacuum bag right on to the regular plastic. After that cut a hole in the plastic to bring in the valve through so that it reaches the surface of the bed. Try to tape down the hole as securely as possible, so that while vacuuming it is airtight.
  4. Vacuum the air out, attach the vacuum hose to the valve, then turn on the vacuum and the process will begin to work. All of the air will be sucked out slowly, and then after that, the mattress will start compressing to a fraction of its original height.
  5. Roll it up, after flattened the mattress out as much as possible, keep it in the horizontal shape and begin the rolling process. It is advisable to keep the vacuum running while rolling to make sure that there is no air inside.
  6. Strap it, use the ratchet straps to secure down the mattress properly. The straps are important because if the plastic holding everything rips or breaks, then these straps will keep the bed rolled as well as compressed.

Important & Useful Tips

  • Standing a carton foam mattress right on the edge can cause the foam layers to separate easily, which is a irreparable loss. If a company is transporting the foam mattress, then it is advisable to mark the box to let the movers know that this carton must remain flat. Turning the box in the upright position even only once can make the foam slide as well as crush inside the box.
  • The foam mattresses usually stick to many surfaces. If in case the mattress sticks to the box, then wrap the mattress in large sheets, that allows it to slide in easily.
  • If in case the foam needs to be moved down a flight of stairs or around any of the obstacle where the box can not remain flat, that time simply carry the mattress past the obstacle right before packing it.
