Easy Measuring Way & Tips For Fully Overlay Cabinet Doors
The overlay is actually the correlation of the cabinet doors with the cabinet face frames. The amount of the overlay also helps to determine the type of hinge and door that will be used. - If the cabinets are designed for the full overlay, it means that the cabinet doors will completely overlap the opening from all the four sides. The right determination for the full overlay is 3/4 inch from all the sides. For instance, if the door opening in the cabinet's face frame is about 12 by 18 inches, that time the size for the full overlay cabinet door will be 13 1/2 by 19 1/2 inches. Measuring Tips
Some of the important measuring tips are mentioned below:
- It is advisable to measure each of the openings at least twice to prevent any mistakes. Note down each of the measurements on the note pad.
- Measure all the openings of the door to the nearest 1/16". Also, be sure to note the measurements as width x height. For instance, the user may write down something like width 14" x 30" height.
- If there are existing cabinet doors, then it is best to remove them before measurement.
- Keep a careful record of the calculations and also make sure to double-check—or triple check—your work. Make sure to carefully mark down the custom cabinet door sizes as well as how many are needed for each type.
