How To Measure Countertops For Replacement: Step By Step Way Of Measuring Countertops

Step By Step Way Of Measuring The Countertops For Replacement

Installing new countertops can give the kitchen or bathroom a new look. To compare the different costs of the countertop materials, like laminate and the granite, the user needs to get the approximate square footage of the countertops. In order to get the measurement of the countertop, go through the step by step way mentioned below:

Step 1: Rough Diagram Of Layout

  1. Before measuring the countertops, make a rough diagram of the kitchen or of the bathroom area. The drawing will help to provide a visual idea to record the measurements. This sketch does not need any scale, simply take a piece of graph paper and a pencil. Draw a model of the space sketch of all the walls and also mark the doorways.
  2. Sketch all the appliances, sinks, as well as faucets roughly. Their locations must be added to the diagram.
  3. Draw the layout of the cabinets. Sketch the layout of the cabinets on the diagram. It is important to note that the dimensions do not need to be precise.
  4. Also note, edge types or the sweeps, all the countertops are highly customizable. The unique touches that the user may select can alter the quote and therefore must be noted in the diagram. Select an edge type for the countertops 3/8 inch rounded solid surface, eased stone, bevel stone, or the bevel solid surface.

Step 2: Measuring Existing Countertops

  1. Measure the length of the existing countertops in the form of inches. In order to measure out the length of one section of the countertop, simply run a measurement tape flush all along the back edge of the section to be measured from one end to the other end. The starting, as well as the last of a section, is marked the edge of a cabinet, or an appliance. Add 3/4 inch to the overall length, and also round the measurement nearest to the 1/8 inch. Note down this measurement on the diagram or on a separate sheet of paper. Repeat the same process until all the measurement of the length of each section is done.
  2. Also measure the width of the countertops in inches. Take a measuring tape for measuring the width of each section of the countertop. Run the tape right from the back of the countertop to the finished front edge of the countertop. Again round the measurement to the nearest 1/8 inch and also note down this measurement. Repeat the same process until all the measurement of the width of each section of countertop is done.
  3. Calculate the square footage. In order to get the estimate for the new countertops, the user needs to get an approximate calculation of the existing countertops in the square footage.

Step 3: Backsplash And Countertops With Angles

  1. In this way the user needs to measure the length of the backsplash as well as calculate the square footage. If the user has a plan to add a backsplash, then account for its dimensions in the final measurement.
  2. Measure the irregular countertops. If the countertops are irregularly shaped, that time divide the countertop into the square sections. These sections can overlap and/or can include negative or simply the blank space. Once the user has sectioned off the countertop in the squares, then measure the length as well as the width of each section. For each of the sections, simply multiply the length by the width.
