Steps & Item Required To Make Wood Furnitutre Look Weathered Or Distressed

Weathered look of wood furniture is also known as distressed furniture. In order to make the wood furniture look like weathered or distressed, the user needs to follow the steps given below along with the items needed to proceed with the procedure:

Required Items

  1. SandPaper.
  2. Paintbrush.
  3. Paint.
  4. Polyurethane.
  5. Rags or tack cloths.

Steps

  1. Prepare: The first step is to prepare the area where the work has to be done by laying down drop cloths on the floor.
  2. Sanding The Wood: Small grit sandpaper (60-80) is best to make the surface suitable for giving a weathered look to the wood furniture. Rub the sandpaper in a very gentle manner until the surface is smooth.
  3. Cleaning: After sanding the wood furniture clean the dust with rag cloth. Using a vacuum cleaner can also be helpful.
  4. Paint: Now start painting the wood furniture with latex paint to give a weathered look to the wood. For this purpose, the user can use Paint Sprayer. Paint spray can easily cover the corners and edges of the wood furniture. Allow the white paint to dry completely for 15-20 hours.
  5. Weathered Look: Before starting the process of giving weathered look to the wood furniture, the user needs to use another paint coat and then make the paint dry. Now take sandpaper (small grit 60-80) and start rubbing the edges and corners of wood furniture to give weathered look to wood.
  6. Staining The Wood: After that use stain on the weathered wood furniture and then wipe all the stain after some time with a rag cloth.
  7. Apply Polyurethane: At last apply a polyurethane on the antiqued wood furniture and allow the antiqued wood furniture to dry for 14-15 hours.
