How To Make Waterfall Valance: Step By Step Process Of Making A Waterfall Valance

Step By Step Process Of Making A Waterfall Valance

It is not easy to shop for the waterfall valances. Besides this, even the stores some times often do not have the right size or the pattern. So the solution to this problem is to try to create the perfect waterfall valance, at the home. The step by step process of making a waterfall valance is mentioned below:
  1. In the first step of the process, find out the overall width of the window as this will help to get the top width and then divide it by the number of the waterfall valances that the user is going to hang. For instance, if in case the window or width of the rod of the curtain is about 48 inches, then attach about 3 waterfall valances, in that case, the top width of the waterfall valance will be 16 inches.
  2. Figure out the length, simply by multiplying the totally top width with the 2.5. This means, if the top width is about 16 inches, then simply multiply the 16 by the 2.5, and the drop or the length will be 40 inches long.
  3. Now it is time to measure the width of the bottom of the waterfall valance & this can be done by multiplying the width of the curtain rod by the 1.5. As mentioned in the example, if in case the width is 48 inches, then multiply it by the 1.5, so the bottom width will be the 72 inches. Take a dowel rod for drawing a curve line between all the points.
  4. Measure out the diameter of the rod of the curtain which will be used to hang the waterfall valances. After the measurement is done, then subtract the diameter of the rod with the 1 1/2 inch. This means if in case the diameter is 3 1/2 inches, that time the user will need a 2-inch hole. Measure another same amount that is figured for the rod's opening this is for adding the decorative pleated exactly at the top. As in the example, this will be another 2 inches, which will equal 4 inches in the total.
  5. With the help of the above-mentioned measurements and the formula, cut the pattern for the waterfall valance. Fold as well as at the same pin all the edges underneath about 1/4 inch and then iron it. To get the clean and smooth look simply, sew the creased edges.
  6. Fold as well as pin the fabric's 2 parallel ends that are even with the help of the measurement that is figured for the rod and again iron it. In the middle of the folded piece, the user needs to make a stitch line with the help of a straightedge as well as with the fabric chalk. Sew all along the line and also on all along the edge for closing it up. Slide-in the valance on the curtain rod, continue bunching it until the desired look is achieved.

Important Tips

  • It is advisable not to use the light or the sheer fabrics, this is because they will not hold up the folds or the swoop as the thicker and the sturdier fabric will hold like the cotton mix.
  • Also consider using the odd number of the valances while placing it on the window because this will help to give a depth and also the character. In order to create the authentic waterfall valance, use the alternate colors as well as the patterns by simplifying overlapping the waterfall valances on the curtain rod.
