Things You Will Need

  • Screwdriver
  • Socket Wrench
  • Spray Lubricant
  • Nylon Rollers
  • Rubber Pieces
  • Scissors
  • Awl

Steps For This Process

After collecting all the required items, now you need to follow all the given steps to get the best result of your hard work:
  • First of all, you need to tighten all bolts & screws on your door, track & opener because any loose connections will cause the unit to rumble or rattle while you are opening or closing your garage door.
  • Next you need to add spray lubricant to any moving parts of your garage door. Spray the top of the springs predominantly & allow the spray lubricant oil to flow down to the base of your door springs. Spray along the indoors of each track & around each metal roller. To fix a chain assembly, lubricate the chain so it will slide easily around your gears.
  • Spray your hinges betwixt your door panels as well. All the moving parts will cause joined vibration when they have to work hard to move, so you need to lubricate at least 2 times in a year to maintain the smooth motion of your door.
  • You may also need to change the metal rollers to nylon roller. Metal rollers traveling along metal tracks can be much noisy but the nylon rollers are much muted. The nylon rollers also don't need lubrication as compared to the metal roller and will also reduce the time you spend for maintaining your door.
  • Now you need to add pieces of rubber as buffers to your door & the opener supports. Remove all the bolts that are holding your door to the opening track with the help of a socket wrench. Now you need to slide a thin piece of rubber, about 1/4 inch wide, betwixt the door & your bolt assembly. Tighten all the bolts again.
  • Brace your garage door opener on a ladder & wooden blocks and then remove all the bolts that are holding it to the metal support frame. Using the same rubber, cut 2 rectangular pieces with 2 holes about 1 1/2 inches apart. Bolt one end to the frame & one end to the opener so that the opener is suspended from your frame by your rubber.
  • Finally, the rubber will easily absorb any vibration before it gets to the support frame and into the floor of your home, reducing vibration noise.
