Step By Step Guide And Items Needed To Make Cushions For Saddle Stools

If you are going to make cushions for your saddle stools but you don't know how to do it? then don't worry because we are here to help you. Simply collect all the given items and start your work to get the best result of your hard work. Here is the list of required items and steps for this process:

Items Needed

  • Tape Measure & Newspaper
  • Adhesive Tack & Soft-Lead Pencil Or Highlighter
  • Scissors & Cushion Fabric
  • Sewing Machine & Thread
  • Hand-Sewing Needle & Filler Material Of Choice
  • Broadcloth For Filler Fabric, If Required

Steps For This Process

  • First of all, you need to make a pattern of the shape of the top of your saddle stool. Then you need to cut a piece of newspaper at least 2 inches larger than your saddle stool. Fasten the paper to your chair seat with recyclable sticky tack set in small dots around the perimeter of your seat.
  • Next, trace the shape of your seat by using a soft-lead pencil or you can also use a highlighter. Never use a felt pen because it may soak through with the newspaper & stain your chair seat.
  • Remove your pattern & draw your fabric cutting line 1/2 inch out from the outline. Cut your pattern on the cutting line. Fold your pattern in half to check for equilibrium and then you need to redraw your pattern if it is not symmetrical.
  • Carefully decide on the type of your padding. You can also use memory foam chips, upholstery foam, mesh fiber, or layers of the bonded batting. Now you need to choose your filler based on your needs, here is an example, 1-inch-thick bonded batting, applicable from upholsterers, is layered and makes a low-loft soft filler that can be machine washed while still in your cushion. Foam is easily applicable in fluctuating thicknesses, densities & prices.
  • The memory foam chips, housed in a sovereign inner bag, implement soft seating & bounce back when released, but can be overpriced and also sometimes difficult to find.
  • Mesh fiber is made categorically for your outdoor cushions & resembles very dense quilt batting, it won't pack down and also the best resistant to mildew or mold growth.
  • Loose fiberfill will ultimately pack down and will have to be replaced much more often than any of the other types of padding.
  • Choose your filler that best meets your needs and prepare your filler to your desired thickness. If you are going to use layers of the batting then you need to cut them to the same size as the pattern for your cushion. Simply cut your foam to the same size as your finished cushion. If you are going to use foam chips or loose fiberfill then you need to make a broadcloth bag the same size as your cushion cover to house your filler.
  • Now you need to cut 1 piece of your fabric as wide as the flawless thickness of your cushion plus 1 inch. Cut the length of this strip equal to the periphery separation of your cushion plus 1 inch. Join the short ends with a 1/2-inch seam allowance.
  • Next you need to place the right sides of your strip and your cushion top together, matching the edges of your cushion and the long edge of your strip. Next, you need to pin your strip in place around the cushion piece and sew 1/2 inch from the raw edges. Now you need to pin your strip in place around the leftover cushion piece and then you need to sew 1/2 inch from the raw edges. Leave a 10-inch opening in your seam.
  • Finally you need to turn your cover to the right side and then insert your filler or filler bag. Hand-sew your open seam to exhaustive your project. Now you can your use saddle stools with the soft cushions.

Tips For This Process

  • The conventional ties used to hold your cushion in place on your chair have a propensity to pull out of the seam. It is usually better to allow your cushion some wiggle space. You need to use gripper fabric cut in a 6-inch square & laid on your chair seat to help hold your cushion on your seat.
  • Sticky tack is the puttylike removable adhesive marketed for hanging posters on the wall, it is occasionally applicable in any dollar or office supply stores.
