Thing's You Will Need

  • Craft Paper Or Printout Of Decal Design & Pencil
  • Permanent Marker & Scissors
  • Craft Knife
  • Contact Paper Or Removable Wall Vinyl
  • Painter's Tape
  • Plastic Gift Card Or Plastic Spatula

Step 1: Make The Design

The first and foremost thing is to outline or make a design for your decal on craft paper with the help of a pencil. As soon as you are fully satisfied with the design, go over the design using a permanent marker. If you want, you can also use clip art instead as well as print out the desired image on regular paper. The image on paper needs to be of the same size that you are looking for in your decal.

Step 2: Cut Out The Template

The next step is to cut out the paper decal design with the help of scissors. When it comes to tiny detailed areas, make the starting cuts using the tip of a craft knife for the better cutting control.

Step 3: Trace Your Design

Now, it is time to overturn the contact paper or vinyl in order to make sure that the backside is visible. Turn over the paper template back-side-up onto the back of the contact paper so that it will come out forward on the decal. If the design looks the same from the front or back, like an asymmetrical heart shape, then you don't need to turn the paper template over. Outline the paper template onto the back of the vinyl with the help of a permanent marker.

Step 4: Cut Out The Decal & Position It

Next, cut the decal shape out rigorously with the help of scissors. Use the tip of a craft knife when it comes to cutting out tiny details when necessary. Take hold of the decal against a clean wall in the location that you desire. Position a piece of masking tape at the top of the decal in order to take hold of it in place for a limited period of time.

Step 5: Applying The Decal

Finally, take off the backing paper away from the top part of the decal while the tape is still in position. Overturn the decal temporarily to reach the backing paper. Smooth numerous inches of the decal down at a time, taking off more backing paper away as you work. With the help of a plastic gift card or plastic spatula, smooth the decal in place, keeping away from any ripples and air bubbles.
