The steps are mentioned below to make a fitted sofa cover/slipcover:

Step 1: Preparing The Cover/Slipcover Material

  1. Determine And Purchase Material: The first step is to determine the measurement of the sofa and how much fabric material is required for making the cover. Then the customer can purchase the fabric material from the market according to their color and taste.
  2. Wash And Dry Cover: Next step is to wash the sofa cover. By washing the sofa cover the fabric material softens and make sure that the fabric for sofa cover does not shrink.
  3. Iron The Material: After washing the fabric there may occur wrinkles on the fabric material. To make the surface accurate and smooth the customer needs to iron the material.

Step 2: Creating The Cover/Slipcover Pattern

  1. Drape The Sofa: Cover the sofa with butcher paper or muslin and trace the pattern of the sofa excluding the arm fronts. Use safety pins to secure the mock cover in different sections of the sofa.
  2. Mark The Pattern: Take chalk and mark on the patterns from where the fabric cover needs to cut. The marked pattern sections include back of the sofa from outside, seating area, and sides of slipcover from inside and outside of the armrest.
  3. Measure Arm Fronts: Now measure the length of the arm front and mark an outline with the help of chalk and create a pattern for arm front.
  4. Cut The Pattern Sections: Then take scissors and properly cut the fabric pattern in the direction of a chalk outline.

Step 3: Sewing The Cover/Slipcover

  1. Cut And Pin Sofa Cover: Now place the large slipcover pieces on the surface and use chalk to mark 1-inch space for hemming. Then put the slipcover on the sofa and use straight pins to secure the fabric cover on the sofa for providing a general shape.
  2. Sew The Cover: Take away the cover from armrest and arms front section and stitch them together. Then take away other two cover pieces and stitch them. Now take side pieces and stitch them with the body section cover and check that the cover fits comfortably on the sofa.
  3. Mark The Hem: For the finished look of the sofa, mark space for the hem at the bottom of the sofa and stitch the hem ends.
  4. Use Cover: Turn the correct side of the cover upwards and place the cover on the sofa.
