How To Make A Drafting Table Top: Step By Step Procedure Of Making A Drafting Table Top

Step By Step Procedure & Items Required For Making A Drafting Table Top

The users can easily turn any type of table into the drafting table and with the movable drafting tabletop as well. This table usually consists of the inclined flat surface that is in between the ten and thirty degrees. This kind of table is having the ridge at the base so as to store the pencils and the other drawing items. The users can easily make the movable drafting table by using the few plywood pieces and this kind of table is very light in weight, less expensive, and can be moved anywhere. The users can easily make a drafting tabletop at home by gathering the below-mentioned materials and then following the below-defined step by step procedure:

Materials Required

  • Table Saw, Band Saw, 1 1/4-Inch Pin Nails
  • Putty Knife, Hardwood Plywood, Wood Glue
  • Wood Putty, Pin Nailer, Hardwood Stick
  • Sandpaper, Lacquer And Stain

Procedure

  • Set The Fence: Start by setting the fence over the table saw so as to calculate the 3 inches within the blade to the surface of the fence. Then the users need to tilt up the blade to the fifteen degrees and then they need to position the plywood piece facing downwards at the blade back, fastened adjacent to the fence. Then they need to rotate the saw and then run the plywoods on the saw so as to trim a fifteen-degree angle parallel to the one side grain. After that again set the fence to the half inches within the blade and then repeat the trimming down the angle to the other side of the plywood piece.
  • Make The Rectangular Frame: The users need to stand the 2 pieces upwards parallel to one another towards its angled corners facing upwards. They need to be assured that the angles need to be positioned in the same matter and then place the 2 plywood pieces in between them so as to create the rectangular-shaped frame.
  • Trace The Length: Then use the pencil so as to trace down the angle formed by the 2 angled pieces on the plywood sides as the angles make up the contact with the sides. The users need to detach the angles frame piece and then place the pieces of the side downwards in a flat way. Then they need to use the straightedge and the pencil so as to trace down the full length of the angle on the 2 sides of the pieces.
  • Shoot The Pin Nails: They need to trim down the traced angle over the pieces by using the band saw. Then apply the wood glue at the pieces ends and then make again the frame by positioning the side pieces in between the pieces that are angled flushed at its edges. Then they need to shoot the pin nails within the edges at the taller frame side. They need to shoot the 2 pin nails within the short corner sides.
  • Apply The Wood Glue: Now apply the wood glue to the topmost frame edges and then position the plywood piece at the frame top. The pieces need to be overhang the frame evenly on all of its sides and then shoot down the pin nails within the topmost plywood piece all around its diameter so as to fasten it with the frame. They need to shoot down the nails spaced evenly to near about 6 inches far away.
  • Again Apply Wood Glue: Then the users require to apply the wood glue to the one hardwood stick side and then position it so as flush it with the side and the base of the plywood top. Then they need to shoot down the pin nails within its central position and make it evenly spaced so as to fasten it with the plywood. This will work as the book-stop.
  • Apply The Paint: Finally the users need to fill up the holes by using the wood putty and the putty knife. Once the putty is dried off completely they need to sand down the corners by using the sandpaper. Then apply the stain by using the fine bristled brush or by directly using the spray stain. Then they need to sand the surface again by using the sandpaper and then apply the one coat of the stain so as to finish up the process.
