Complete Step-By-Step Instructions For Making A Diamond Tufted Headboard

The elegant and the classy, diamond tufted headboard, is timeless. These headboards usually remind of the plush pillow-top beds with warm, fuzzy blankets. You will be surprised to know how simple it is to make one diamond tufted headboard. In order to make a diamond tufted headboard, go through the step by step instructions mentioned below:
  1. Prepare Headboard: The first step is to cut the plywood to the desired headboard size. It is best to use the 2 x 3-inch x 8-foot boards, having the wide side down and butt-jointed, this will help to make a stretcher to the same size as the plywood. Screw down the plywood with the stretcher after every few inches all the way around.
  2. Apply Foam: After the above step is done then apply the spray adhesive on the plywood front. Lay down the 1-1/2-inch foam topper, keep the patterned side down, on the plywood. With the help of scissors trim all the edges of the foam pad and flush with the edge of the plywood. Spray the adhesive on to the front of the adhered piece of foam, after that apply the 1/2-inch foam pad, keep the pattern side down, on top of it. Do not trim the foam yet.
  3. Flat Sheet: Iron the flat sheet and then spread it evenly on a large flat work surface. Place the headboard on top of the flat sheet keeping facedown. Trim the sheet as well as the foam pad, 6 inches larger than the headboard from all around. Pull the sheet and the foam pad on to the back of one of the longest sides of the stretcher boards then staple in place right at the center. Do the same process for the other long side, then again repeat the process for the short sides. Start working from the center towards the corners, it is advisable to add a few staples at a time on each of the sides until reaching the corners. At the corners, fold as well as tuck the sheet same as making a bed then staple in place.
  4. Patterned Fabric: Iron all over the patterned fabric and then lay it flat on the large work surface. Keep the headboard facedown over the fabric, follow the same stretching process that was used previously. If desired, the user can cover the buttons with the fabric and decide the placement.
  5. Drill Holes: Measure as well as mark the backside of the headboard that must be corresponding to the placement of the buttons right on the front side of the board. Drill 1/8-inch holes on the backside of the tufted headboard at spots, it is advisable to be careful to only drill the plywood. If drilling beyond the plywood then the drill bit can snag and also shred the foam.
  6. Attach Buttons: In this step the user needs to cut out a 2-foot length of florists wire. After that thread the needle using the florist's wire and bend the wire back. Insert the needle into the drilled hole and then push into the foam and the fabric. Run the needle as well as the wire into the back of the button, then again back through the fabric and the headboard. From the backside of the diamond tufted headboard, tug the wire snugly. Bend it with the plywood and then staple in place. Over the staple, wrap the wire back towards the hole and staple. Repeat a couple of times. Repeat the same process for the remaining buttons.
