Step By Step Process To Line Drawers With Contact Paper
The contact paper is the best option for protecting the drawers as well as shelves. Besides the protection, it is also great for giving a fresh look without the need to paint. The step by step process to line drawers with contact paper is mentioned below:
- Clean The Drawer: Start the process by cleaning the drawer with the help of a wet rag. After that let it dry, so that the contact paper will stick to the drawer surface well, also the drawer surface must dry before using the contact paper.
- Make The Custom Template: Start the template right from the front of the drawer. Position one sheet of the paper in the corner and after that lay the other overlapping the piece. Attach a piece of the tape to hold them together properly. Continue the same process until all the drawer surface is completely covered. It is important to make sure that there must be a gap of about 1/8 inch at the back of the drawer. This is because the contact paper will be slightly curly at the back and this way it will guarantee that it will not roll up from the back of the drawer making it very easier to pull up during the use.
- Position The Template Paper: Take up the template paper and then position it on the backside of the contact paper. It is advisable to try to get the contact paper as flat as possible like it can be taped to the table. Then attach the template to the contact paper edge, also make sure that they line up with the corner. With the marker, trace on all around the edge of the template. It is also important to be sure to write on both the template and the contact paper. So when the user will pull up the template there will be a straight line to follow with the scissors.
- Cut Along The Line: Cut all along the line & try to cut as close as possible to the sharp edge of the line since this is the true edge of the template. The contact paper will cut easily if the user will start the cut as well as glide the scissors all along the line.
- Peeling & Aligning: Start peeling the one edge of the paper and also aligning it in one corner and then down one edge. Position a few inches of paper on the area making sure that they are bubble-free as well as aligned well. Then from underneath the paper grab the adhesive side of the contact paper pulling it back while pressing the new exposed stuff down and bubble-free. Now the drawer is well protected and the drawer has a new fresh design.
