3 Steps For This Project

  1. Prepare The Room, As Well As The Wood Paneling For The Bleaching:
    • In the beginning of this process, you need to cover all the floors, as well as any uncovered surfaces or furniture to decrease any achievable harm from the bleaching solution. However, covering the floors will help you to clean up the dust & dirt from sanding later on.
    • Now you need to start sanding your wood paneling with sandpaper(coarse-grit). Next, continue with the sanding process by using the 220 and/or 150 fine-grit sandpaper.
    • You need to remember that it is important to remove the entire upper layer of your wood paneling and uncover the fresh wood below. It is through the naked wood surface that the bleaching solution will perforate and lighten the paneling very well.
    • Finally, clean the dust and dirt which comes after the sanding process with help of a clean and damp rag.
  2. Mix And Apply The Bleaching Solution:
    • The bleaching solutions by different manufacturer's vary in terms of mixing the concoction. Read and then follow the guidance carefully and then cascade your mixture in a suitable container.
    • Now you need to use a wooden spoon to blend the solution well. Always remember that never use the metal items as a chemical reaction can take place when bleach gets in contact.
    • Next, start applying the solution with the help of a paintbrush (synthetic). Always try to cram any excess amount of the solution left on your paintbrush to avoid any splashes.
  3. Finish Lightning The Wood Paneling To The Desired Level:
    • Once you've applied the first coat of your bleaching solution by following the company’s guidance, you will have to wait betwixt 3 hours to 24 hours until the effect of the solution will take place.
    • If you want an improved lightening effect then you can proceed with applying a 2nd coat of the bleaching solution after the 1st layer has dried entirely. A 3rd coat, however, it can make the wood a little bit swell, so it is best to avoid it.
    • Finally, you have to mix two parts of water with one part vinegar (white) and go over the wood paneling with a clean rag. Repeat this process after 30 minutes and finish by wiping the surface of your wood paneling with a dry rag and at last, sand with fine-grit sandpaper
