5 Easy Steps, Tools & Items Needed To Level Pool Table Slate

Leveling the slate pool tables can be a simple task but this mostly depends on the type of table. For instance, some of the pool tables have a plate at the base which can be turned and unscrewed to keep the table higher or lower. If the table does not have this option, then place a wood shim under the legs. The steps, tools, and items needed to level pool table slate are mentioned below:

Tools & Items Needed

  • Wood Shims
  • Carpenter’s Level
  • Cue Ball (Or Any Billiard Ball)
  • Marbles
  • Small Piece Of Window Glass

5 Easy Steps

  1. Level Test: Before starting the process, it is advisable to make sure that it is tilted. One of the easy ways to find out this is to use a carpenter’s level and then place it on all sides of the pool table.
  2. Insert Wood Shims: After checking which side or sides need to be leveled, then lift up the side of the table which needs to be leveled, here the helping hand may be needed. It is advisable not to lift the table from the top as it can damage the surface of the table as well as it could also detach from the base. Lift up the table from the base. In this way, the whole weight of the pool table is properly supported and will not keep the pressure on the top of the pool table. Once the pool table has a little bit clearance right from the ground, then insert a wooden shim right beneath the leg or base. This must level the pool table fairly well.
  3. Re-Check Level: After the wooden shims are properly as well as securely in place right under the table, after that check the level of the slate pool table once again. If in case it is still not perfect, then adjust all the shim until it is perfectly leveled.
  4. Roll Test: After the carpenter’s level has a perfect reading, then perform a roll test to check that the pool table is properly level from all around. For that simply roll a billiard ball on any portion of the pool table and check how it rolls. The ball must roll straight and should not veer off to any of the sides. If in case there is any irregularity then the table still need some adjusting.
  5. Marble Test: Another easy way to test the level of the pool table is the marble test. Simply place the piece of the flat glass in the middle of the pool table and put the marble in the middle. If in case the marble rolls to any of the sides, take note of that side, and this is the side which still needs some adjusting.
