How To Lay Vinyl Tile Over Particle Board: Proper Procedure Of Laying Vinyl Tile Over Particle Board

Proper Procedure Of Laying Vinyl Tile Over Particle Board

Particleboard is one of the economical, smooth, and easy-to-install underlayments that is usually positioned underneath the vinyl floors. Vinyl tiles require a very smooth, flat & uniform underlayment, due to the reason that their lightweight, flexible surface will display or exhibit every protuberance or divot in a less-even surface. Due to the fact that particleboard is strongly recommended for vinyl sheeting, vinyl tiles can be placed or fixed on it, but make sure that the particleboard is sealed first. This will help you prevent moisture from seeping betwixt the tiles and causing the particleboard to swell with the passage of time.
  1. Vacuum The Particleboard: First of all, vacuum-clean the particleboard exceptionally well. Get rid of any dust or debris, regardless of how small. The particleboard must have an even and regular surface before you install the vinyl on it. Vacuum-cleaning it before sealing will make sure that nothing gets permanently sealed into the surface.
  2. Seal The Particleboard: Now, seal the particleboard properly with the help of a shellac sealer. Roll it on with the help of a paint roller and cover all areas of the board. Allow the sealer to dry in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions. Sealing is extremely important with vinyl flooring due to the reason that there is no grout betwixt the tiles to keep moisture from seeping through the installation and swelling the subfloor.
  3. Lay Out The Vinyl Tiles On The Particleboard: Next, set up the vinyl tiles on the particleboard in order to ascertain or establish the pattern you are looking to install them in. Layout the first tile in the middle of the wall furthest from the door and the rest of the vinyl tiles out evenly to each side. This will help give a balanced installation with the cut tiles hidden on the sides of the room. Make the cuts on the tiles to insert the edges with the help of a vinyl tile cutter.
  4. Apply Vinyl Tile Adhesive: Take up the vinyl tiles in the opposite order you put them down. Apply an insignificant amount of vinyl tile adhesive onto the particleboard with the help of a trowel. Apply only as much adhesive as you can lay the vinyl on in 10 minutes in order to prevent it from getting dried out.
  5. Allow The Adhesive To Dry: Drive the vinyl tiles into the adhesive in the same order you decided previously. Push the edges of the tiles up in opposition to one another, moving them sideways smoothly using the edge of the trowel if needed. Allow the adhesive to dry for nearly 24 hours.
  6. Roll The Vinyl Tiles Using Floor Roller: Finally, roll the vinyl tiles with the help of a floor roller in order to stick them fast to the adhesive as well as particleboard. Drive the floor roller back and forth over the entire floor, & make sure to overlap each pass for complete coverage.
