Lacquer is basically the varnish used on the wooden surfaces for finishing surface. It comes in both lacquer and colored types for finishing the variety of wooden surfaces as required making the more lustrous and durable.

What Are The Steps To Lacquer/High Gloss Paint The Furniture?

The basic steps to lacquer the furniture are mentioned below:
1.Sanding: Sand the furniture using medium (80-grit) sandpaper to make rough surfaces smooth.
2.Fill Holes: Apply lacquer filler to fill gaps and holes if any. It must be noted that chemical lacquers do not adhere well with regular brands.
3.Re-Sand: Repeat the sanding process again using 120-grit sandpaper to create more even surface.
4.Wipe Furniture: Once the sanding is done use tack cloth to wipe it entirely to remove dust and dirt residue. Make sure to use shop-vac for vacuuming the whole area prior to the next step.
5.Clean Cloth And Ventilated Area: Put the clean cloth beneath the furniture piece that needs to lacquer and also ensure that area is fully ventilated as there are so many lacquers contain toxic fumes and are flammable in nature as well.
6.Base/ Primer Lacquer: Base or primer lacquer is a good choice for wood as it comes with lots of endurance and offers ultimate finish even on the hardwood surfaces. Apply it according to the instructions labeled.
7.Lacquer Spray Cans: The Lacquer spray cans like Aerosol lacquer can do the job more accurately and uniformly.
8.Safety: Before Lacquer application make sure to wear gloves, masks, and goggles.
9.Sanding: Before primer, sanding must be done using fine-grit sandpaper and clear all residue with a tack cloth.
10.Apply Lacquer: Shake the cane well and keep it 10 and 18 inches away from the furniture spray. Make sure to apply the lacquer according to the directions and in small strokes.
11.Let It Dry: Apply the first coat of lacquer thoroughly and allow it to dry completely for 48 hours.
12.Second Coat: Apply a second coat of the lacquer as per the instructions.
13.Buff The Surface: Buff the surface using 0000 steel wool and use a tack cloth to clean the surface. Take the paste wax and thoroughly apply it over the surface and rub the surface using a lint-free cloth.

How To Clean Black Lacquer Furniture?

The basic steps to clean the black lacquer furniture are as follows:
1.Damp: Use a wet soft cloth to wipe the entire furniture and make it damp. Wipe the furniture with a dry cloth and avoid using much water to clean the surface.
2.Examine Furniture: Examine the furniture carefully for dirt and dust if it is properly clean.
3.Furniture Cleaner: In case the surface is not properly clean spray very small amount of the solvent-based furniture cleaner on the rag and rub the entire surface with it. Immediately clean it using a light wet or damp cloth and follow up by drying it with the dry cloth. Repeat the process till whole black lacquer is cleaned.
4.Wax: Wax the furniture using liquid wax with the soft brush and allow it to dry for 15 minutes. Then buff the furniture using a lint-free cloth.
Note: Using furniture polish or oil based cleaners must be avoided.

How To Paint Lacquer Furniture?

The steps to paint the Lacquer furniture are mentioned below:
1.Ventilation: Before application of the lacquer paint make sure the area is well ventilated.
2.Sanding: Sand the furniture surface using "palm sander fitted with 220-grit sandpaper" until the results are achieved.
3.Clean Dust: Clean the sanding dust and other residue using a tack cloth.
4.Cover: Put the furniture over the cloth and cover the pieces with painters tape that does not require to paint.
5.Oil Based Primer: Oil based primer must be applied to the entire furniture using brushes meant for the same and let it dry for two hours.
6.Mineral Spirits: Clean brush properly using mineral paints.
7.Dilute: Add oil-based enamel and one ounce of the mineral spirits into the gallon of paints. Add the water and paint into the gallon of 5 ounces and mix well using the wooden stick.
8.Apply: Apply diluted paint over the furniture piece and avoid overcoating. Let the paint dry for six hours prior to using the furniture.

How To Refinish/ Update Lacquer Furniture?

The best way to refinish or update the lacquer furniture is mentioned below:
1.Denatured Alcohol And Lacquer: Add both of them in a bucket and apply the mixture over the surface using a paint brush. Let it dry for a minute.
2.Scraper: In order to eliminate the liquor make use of a scraper or steel wool till the desired results are achieved.
3.Sanding: Start the sanding process using fine-gauge sandpaper and clean away the residue with paintbrush once done.
4.Stain: Stain the furniture using a paintbrush and let it dry for six to eight hours. To remove excess stain use rag.
5.Polyurethane: Use polyurethane for top coating and let it dry for 12 hours and repeat with the second coat and allow it to dry again for 12 hours.

Repair

The main steps to repair the Lacquer furniture are as follows:
1.Masking: Make sure to mask off the other parts of the furniture that does not need any repairing.
2.Thinner: Apply the Lacquer thinner on the repair area using straight and long strokes.
3.Dry: Let the lacquer dry for a couple of minutes till old lacquer is soft and other marks will get disappeared. Repeat the process if the results are not up to the mark.
