How To Keep Pressure Treated Wood From Warping: Four Important Tips Of Preventing Warping

Four Important Tips Of Preventing Pressure Treated Wood From Warping

The pressure treated wood is notorious for warping as well as bowing, it is treated by dunking the wood into a liquid and then applying the pressure to force the liquid into the wood. This means the wood is wet and will generally arrive at the lumberyard in a wet condition. The wet wood warps very easily. There are a few simple tips to solve this problem.

Tip 1: Avoid Drying Out Boards

When the user gets the pressure treated wood they will notice that it is heavier than regular lumber. The exact moisture content may vary, but the pressure-treated wood has a high moisture content this is because it is submerged in the liquid preservative. So work with the wood before it dries out. Use the wood while it is still damp and secure it into place before it dries out, and it will dry in the place in a straight manner. This will help to avoid warping.

Tip 2: Clamp The Wood

The user needs to clamp the wood in a similar way as in the above tip like clamp a piece of wood to a workbench and then allow it to dry there. This tip would be very helpful if the user needs only a small amount of lumber or if they could not use damp lumber.

Tip 3: Use Screws, Not Nails

If in case the wood dries and warps then use the screws, not nails because this will produce a lot of force. That force can easily cause nails to raise. However, the force is very insufficient to raise screws, so using them, will help the board to dry in a straight position.

Tip 4: Seal Up The Cut Ends

The pressure treatment wood process forces a chemical preservative into the outer layers of the wood. When the user will cut off a piece of treated lumber, there is a darker band of chemical saturation and only newly portion of the lighter is exposed. In order to save that newly exposed part, simply buy an end-cut solution and apply it with the help of a paintbrush. This will help to seal as well as preserve the cut portion.
