How To Keep Drawers From Tipping: Step By Step Process

Step By Step Process Of Stopping The Drawers From Tipping Over

The drawers open as well as shut with a system of rollers and the slides, known as tracks. When functioning properly, they allow the drawer to open and shut smoothly and will not tip over. Below the user can find step by step process of keeping or stopping the drawers from tipping over:
  • The first step is to remove out the drawer from its slot to access the tracks. Gently lift up on the drawer on pull it out, removing the drawer at an angle. If required, try to jiggle the drawer slightly from one side to another side as this will help it to break free of the tracks, such as if one of the sides has removed out but not the other.
  • Check out the mounting of the tracks. It is important to ensure that they are secure as well as pushed all the way to the back. Tight any of the loose screws with the help of a drill.
  • Inspect all the tracks for any kind of the damaged sections, like a bent area that may cause the rollers to slide out from the tracks. The user needs to use the pliers to bend crooked sections back into their place so that the rollers will not pop out. If necessary, remove the track by unscrewing all the mounting screws, then bending it back straight and then replacing the track to their position.
  • Ensure that all the tracks are well installed in the proper way. Most of the tracks have the arrows pointing the upward direction to determine the proper installation form. If in case they are pointing towards down, then loosen the screws, and remove the track, flip it around and then attach it properly.
  • Check for the stripped-out screw holes in which the screws are not mounted firmly. Remove all the screws, reposition the track, and then sink the screws in the new holes. Repeat the same process for both tracks.
  • Put the cabinet locks on the drawers. If the child likes to climb on everything, then take an extra precaution by placing cabinet locks on the drawers. This way, they can not be pulled out of the dresser to tip over. This extra precaution will also help to prevent the drawers from becoming steps for children.
  • It is advisable to prevent children from pulling out the drawers more than two-thirds of the way simply by installing stops. The pulled-out drawers can easily shift the weight of a dresser and can fall over.
  • When buying furniture it is important to look for the cabinets or the chests that are well made and the drawers must open as well as close smoothly without sticking.

Important Tip

Sometimes the stripped screws can be easily fixed using the super glue or the epoxy to help hold them in place rather than removing all the tracks. For the broken or the bent-beyond-repair tracks, simply take them to the local home improvement store and then buy matching tracks to reinstall.
