How To Install Window Shades: Step By Step Instructions Of Installing Window Shades

Step By Step Instructions Of Installing The Window Shades

Installing a window shade may seem a difficult task, but if the best way and proper steps are followed then the user can easily install the shades. The step by step instructions for installing the window shades are mentioned below:

Step 1: Measuring

  • The user needs to take a measurement in order to make sure to buy the correct size of window shades. With the help of a measuring tape determine the size of the window. The shades can either be mounted on the inside or from the outside of the casing. If the user will hang the shades from the outside, that time the window, as well as the shades, will look larger, and hanging the blinds from inside gives the window a slimmer look. However, the inside mounts allow more light to shine on all around the edges of the blinds. Measure all along on the outside edges of the casing, the exact length from the top to bottom of the casing. And for inside mount start from inside the casing, measure the width of the window at the top, middle and bottom.
  • Purchase the shades according to the measurements. There are a number of different kinds of blinds to select from such as vinyl, aluminum, and wood.
  • Make the mounting marks. For the outside mount simply hold the shade up so that the headrail is centered as well as level with the window’s casing. Make with the help of a pencil mark right below the headrail from each side of the casing. Also, make a mark 1/4 inch past the end of each of the headrail. Now in case of the inside mount, position the headrail exactly inside the casing. It must be at a level keep the handrail level, even if the window is not, mark with the pencil right below the headrail on each end.

Step 2: Attaching The Brackets

  • Open the bracket door then hold down the end brackets in the place. Position them exactly inside the pencil marks. There will be 2 open sides to the brackets, one of them must face out towards, while the other one must face in towards the center of the window. It is advisable that the bracket door should face the inside of the room.
  • Using the pencil, mark down the spots to drill the pilot holes there must be two of them. Choose 2 diagonal holes to drill in it so that the brackets are strong. Position the brackets away and then hold up a level so that the two holes are even. For the outside mount, the rackets must be placed on the outside face of the window casing and for inside the brackets must be placed up against on the inside top corner.
  • Each of the brackets comes with the two screws. If drilling into wood, that time use a drill bit with 1/16-inch diameter to make a hole which is slightly smaller than the screw to be used. Replace the bracket and then drill the screws in the place.

Step 3: Installation

  • The valance clips are used for attaching the headrail with the valance. The valance is actually what covers the headrail and also makes it look more decorative. The valance clips must be snapped on the front lip of the headrail before the headrail is attached to the bracket.
  • Position the headrail on to the brackets. Once drilling the brackets in their spots is finished, it is important to make sure that the bracket doors are open then insert the headrail to the brackets. After attaching the headrail, then snap the bracket doors closed, there must be an audible snapping noise.
  • Place the valance on all along the headrail. Place it right on top of the valance clips. After it is positioned then press gently down in a way so that the valance clips snaps in the valance, holding it in right spot.
  • If the shaded came with a wand for the opening and closing, and is not pre-attached, then attach it now. Push up the plastic sleeve of the hook, and then insert the wand’s end in the hook, and after that slide the plastic covering back down.
